If it is running it isn't very loud so I'm not certain. There is warm air blowing out of the back. Could this be from the compressor?

I just unplugged it for 1 min plugged it back in. I also push the two top buttons for eight seconds to reboot.

How long should it take to start cooling if it is running?

  • shawndoe2000 May 12, 2009

    About 5 seconds between clicks.

  • shawndoe2000 May 12, 2009

ignore previous comment about 5 seconds. it is actually like this.

    20 seconds between clicks,

then 3 min 15 seconds btw the next clicks,

then 20 seconds, then 3 min 15 seconds, and so on.....

  • shawndoe2000 May 12, 2009

I cooled a few degrees on the freezer side to 44 deg and still 61 deg on the refrigerator side.

Doesn't seem to be changing anymore for the past 15 mins or so.

Your saying I should call for service to replenish the freon?

The refrigerator is only 5 years old is this common to need refrigerant this soon?

  • shawndoe2000 May 12, 2009

    Thanks for you help Charlie.

I will be calling one tomorrow.

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs May 11, 2010

No, it's not common to loose refrigerant unless there is a leak. I can' t tell from here what the problem is, but it doesn't sound like something simple (like a reset button or cleaning the coils). So I'm suggesting a service person on scene could tell you what the problem is in short order. Low refrigerant is just one possibility.

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs May 11, 2010

If it is low on refrigerant, I guess it could be building pressure during the 3 min pauses. In any event, I can't do much more troubleshooting for you from this distance.

If you're not going to try it yourself, I think you need to call for service.

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs May 11, 2010

The warm air is the condenser fan blowing over the coils -- if it's warm then there is at least some cooling taking place.

It should start cooling after reboot (such that you can detect a difference) say in 10-15 minutes.

I'm not sure of problem, it could be low on refrigerant and the pressure switch is cutting off the compressor.

It doesn't sound like the compressor relay if you're getting warm air off the coils.

Is it cooling now? It took me about 15 minutes to write this.

Can you tell if the compressor is actually running when you hear the click or do you just hear the click? How long between each click?

Ok with this electronic model it has a built in "self check function when it is first turned on. Inturn you most likely have a secondary fault causing the motor (compressor) to stop (but if you have a technician looking at it he'll be able check the compressor with a direct run connection, bypassing the rest of the unit to be 100% sure to compressors ok. The computer controller will cut power to the compressor after say a couple of minutes if a fault is found eg a faulty fridge defrost element is a common cause of this fault in this model, which most technicians wouldn't pick up unless they are very familiar with these unit's or even a faulty temp sensor or defrost temp sensor could cause this. If the Compressor tests ok and all sensors, fans, and defrost elements also test ok then you'd need a new main PCB which are also a very common fault in this model. Cheers

Okay. If you don't mind could you let me know what the tech finds?

Also, could you rate my assistance? I think there are icons at the bottom here.

thanks...

The refrigerator is running but will not cool eitherr side, a repairman changed a fan motor and bladebut is still wont cool. Is it worth spending any more money into it

Hi,

Sounds like you may have a leak... can you tell if the compressor (black can in the back, bottom) is running also or not...if compressor is running and not cooling you may as well junk it....if the compressor is not running it maybe something more simple to fix...

Refrigerator not cooling

the clicking sound you can hear is the relay or clixon as sometimes it is known by trying to start the compressor it may be stuck, first turn off the power to the refridgerator then turn the fridge so that you can see the motor,on the side of the motor you will see a small plastic cover remove it to expose the relaly remove it by pulling it towards you exposing 3 pins in a triangle shape give it a shake to free the solenoid inside the relay relace in the same way you took it off power up the fridge listen to see if you can hear the motor run constanly if it just starts and then goes of its more than likely the compressor is us

Freezer not working , clicking noise coming from fridge

Clicking was a relay. Replaced relatively inexpensive relay and now working fine.

I think it's a motor problem

Your problem is the compressor (motor) start relay. They are inexpensive and availible locally from a refrigeration parts supplier. Check the wiring diagram on the back of your unit for installation help.
