The dvp5960 does not play HD DVDs it only upscales your reguler DVDs to HD quality.

Philips DVP-5960 won't play DVDs, does play from USB Same problem as reported, won't read any DVD (tried half a dozen movies that work fine in other players). However, it will see the USB okay. This unit saw very light use for a few months (was working fine) then sat in a closet for a few more months. It broke just sitting on a shelf in the closet. (Not a dusty closet or anything.) Do they build in a time-to-break timer or something??? Geez!
