Question about Kenmore Elite HE4 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer won't turn on, outlet works, cord works, but nothing works!

Hi there, I have a Kenmore Elite He4t washer dryer set purchased in Oct 2005. We just moved and now the dryer won't work at all. I had the outlet checked and it's fine. I had to replace the cord (4 prong to 3 prong) and I had the new cord checked and it works. But I am getting no power at all to the dryer.

Do I have to order a service call? Any idea how much that costs? How do I find the right provider? Is there anything else I can do first?

Thank you!

This is Michelle writing. I had to change the cord to a 3-prong plug (from a 4-prong plug) because we moved into an older house. It seemed really simple so I'm not sure what could have gone wrong. I talked with the Home Depot people quite a bit about this. They also checked the cord for me to make sure it would pull the current through properly. Of course it is a 220 volt dryer but I saw the tester myself when the electrical guy was here and it showed 246.

Other people talk about the control board or fuse going bad so I wonder if perhaps it is that instead of the cord. I'm glad to look at the cord again but it is so simple I just don't know how to make a change. I've taken it off and put it back on just to be sure, but nothing changed.

I'm just trying to get it working without having to pay for a service call and have any more delays. Thank you so much for your kind help.

WHY DID YOU REPLACE THE CORD ?HOW WAS THE OUTLET CHECKED ? CORDS DON'T HAVE PRONGS, PLUGS DO ?? HOW WAS CORD CHECKED ? WASHERS RUN ON 110v. (3-wire-hookup including ground) AND DRYERS RUN ON 220v.(4-wire hookup including ground) how many volts does your appliance require ??

Its one thing to have the proper voltage at the wall receptacle, but
you need to verify that you have the same voltage present at the
terminal block in the back of the dryer. This is where the power cord
is connected to. If you take a reading across the two hot leads (RED
& BLACK wires), you should read the same voltage that you had at
the receptacle. The main difference between the 3 and 4 prong power
cords is the way that the WHITE (neutral wire) is connected. In a 4
prong set up you have a neutral and separate ground wire. With a 3
prong set up, the neutral is grounded to the equipment cabinet. Please verify and let me know.

Kenmore Elite HE4T standing water

I also have standing water after a wash cycle, but not immediately after. Given the history of very expensive repairs to this Kenmore HE4T washing machine, I suggest you do what I do, if the machine is still cleaning the clothes. Whatever cycle you use, try to be around when the machine finishes, so that you can turn off the water supply and remove the damp clothes to the dryer or clothes line. Turn on the water supply only when you want to use the machine. This works for me because I don't do many loads per week and my laundry area is right next to my kitchen. If it was in my basement, I'd have replaced it already with a top loading machine with mechanical not electronic controls.

New Kenmore Elite Front Loader will not get past 'Sud' cycle,

Hello wheeljc; I had the same problem when I purchased my Kenmore Elite in 2006. I have a HE4t front load. It's possible that you're using to much detergent, if you're using HE liquid it only requires a small amount and does a very good job.

F Code for the Kenmore Elite he4t Front Load Washer (3 years old)

Hi! ricksmith
What is the first three digits of the model number.
The he4t I have reference to does not have a "F" code error. Most of the codes are two digit, PF, F1 to F9 etc.
You could try: Pressing Pause/Cancel two times to clear code. As well as unplug for 20 seconds. Do you have power fluctuations in your area.
