Atv repairs

Hi Lee,

The starter requires substantially more current (amps) than the little wires and contacts that make up the start button and starter circuit. These small wires power a solenoid (an electro-magnetic switch) when the start button is pressed; which in turn closes a much larger contact that connects the larger battery wires to the starter motor.

You may have a blown fuse or fusible link, bad starter switch button, bad solenoid, broken wire(s) between the starter button and solenoid, poor connections at any of the terminals on these devices or a bad starter motor. Check the these circuits with a volt meter capable of testing 12 VDC or using a test lamp. Start with the one probe of the meter or lamp connected to a good ground or (-) post of the battery. The other probe should see 12 V (+) power on ONE of the starter button wires and on BOTH when the button is pressed. If not, work your way back to a bad connection or cut wire. Next, locate the solenoid. There should be two heavy cables and one or two smaller wires entering. The smaller wire is from the start button. Power 12V + should be on it when the button is pressed. If there are two smaller wires, one is probably ground or (-). If no power, check the wire for damage, etc. by following the wire back to the starter button. Once you have 12 V + starter circuit working into the solenoid, go to the next step.

Next, check the two heavy cables on the solenoid. One should have 12 V + power on it all the time and the other should have power only when the starter button is pressed. If you do not have power on one of the cables all the time, there is a bad connection, etc. between the solenoid and the + battery post. Check fuses, connections, etc. and make repairs. With power on one cable, press the start button A working 12 V starter circuit is required for this to work. If no power on the other heavy cable, the solenoid should probably be replaced. If you do have power out, it it still won't crank - check the cable between the starter and solenoid. Repair or replace as needed. If cable is good, the problem is likely to be the starter itself.

Good luck!

1996 nissan pathfinder driver side window won't go up and down

does it click or grind when pushing window button if so the window lift track may need replaced, if there are no sounds then disconnect the wires from the lift motor and with the ignition on so power is sent to switch, push button and check wires to 12 volts dc. If no power I would replace the driver side switch after checking the wires for defects. If there is power then I would re-install wires to motor after turning off key and try button again with power on. replace motor if it doesn't work.

I need to find a new power button for my acer t690 . the old one craped out the spring and now cant use my desk top <sad and cryin> please help

Making a (DIY) Do It Yourself switch will cost you less rather than replacing it with the same switch, if you cant find one.
Tool's
Soldering Iron Soldering lead Desoldering tool (Optional) Shrinkable tube. Wires (Optional)
it might still work, most casing switches looks like this
Figure1: Power Switch with cable and female header pcsyke_33.jpg

Motherboard pcsyke_34.jpg

1. Open your casing, trace the wires of your Power Switch. cut and replace the power button if found defective. some samples of PS buttons.. pcsyke_37.jpg
pcsyke_39.jpg
2. Solder the black and red wires to your new power switch. put the shrinkable tube, apply heat to shrink.

Hopefully this helps. Sorry I don't have actual images.
Thank you for posting.

My horn doesn't work(my bike's horn). Press the button, but no sound, is it an easy fix/replacement? 1998 Honda Deauville 650.

To fix your horn is easy, there are some excellent pills out there.
The bikes horn though is different, you will need a small test light or multy meter,
Check if there is power to the wire plugged onto the horn, ignition on
The horn needs direct power to one terminal, and the other terminal shorts to earth through the button.
If there is power and the other wire connects to earth, when the button is pressed you probably need a new horn( not that expensive)
If there is no power check the fuse
If the second wire doesnt connect to earth when the button pressed there may be a problem in the handle switch.
There can also be a problem in the wiring if it has been damaged in the steering stop etc
Sometimes the horn can just be stuck and a small tap on the horn with the button pressed can start it.
If the horn button it a bit corroded in the contacts, hold it in and wiggle it a bit, can clear the corrosion.

Sometime easier to just check the fuse then buy a new horn, before chasing down the wires and switches

When I presss the power button computer screen stays blank. cannot power processor off.

Something is wrong with the connection wire between your power button and the main board if you pressed the power button on the computer box for a few seconds and still the computer won't turn off. You can open the case and check the connection and replace the wire, or the power button or the main board if necessary. However, you can use the shutdown option of the operating system to turn off your computer too and the reset button might still work besides that issue if you only need to restart while system get frozen.

No boot or wake up

Chances are you need to change the power supply,, but first you need to check to see if its workingm this is quite easy

1.) unplug it
2.) remove the power connector from the main board
3.) on the power connector is a green wire(ONLY ONE) and right next to it is a blact wire(any black will work)
4.) use a peper clip or unisulated wire to bridge the green and black wire by inserting it into the jack contacts.
5.) plug in the power supply, if the fans spins then its working..

If the power supply is fine then you will need to check the power button connectors *wire from power button that connects to the main board),, if the connection is fine, then unjack the connectors and use a bladed screwdriver to bridge the pins for the power button connector on the main board,it should boot up. If not then you need to have that mainboard replaced

No Power / Start-up

if the power button on the front of the tower has no indications, then you most likely have a failure of the power supply.

Open the tower, and inspect for burnt wires. If you find no burnt wires, remove all PCI expansion card and all external connections, then connect the power cord and try to turn on. If no power, then you will most likely need to replace the power supply.

It is the least expensive part to replace on a no power situation. If replacing the power supply fails, then the front IO panel (Power button board) is next, then the motherboard is the 3rd most likely part that may have failed.
