When I start my opal it says "profiling requires 4 mb of space" and then immediately shuts down. Even when I plug it into my computer, it doesn't recognize it at all. I've tried holding the reset button in for at least a minute but that doesn't do anything either.

I have a RCA M4002 MP3 Player. My computer will not allow me to access the player. Everytime I go to turn it on it states profiling requires 4mb free space. I tried downloading the software but when I try to run the program it does not recognize my player is hooked up. I am using a computer with Vista. I have no way of accessing the player or editing or deleting anything. Please help I cant figure it out.

    Thanks in advance

Press reset. It's on the back. Hold for 10 seconds and it will work again.

Profiling requires 4mb free space

Straiten the end of a paperclip and push it into the reset hole on the back. When you turn it on, it should operate as normal without any data loss.

Won't turn on

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

What does it mean???

The Opal has a reset hole on the back of the unit in which a toothpick (non metallic) can be inserted to reboot the player.
If this does not work, I suggest that you reformat the player by using the WindowsTM format command on the unit. To reformat the memory
  1. Right click on the device within the Explorer or My Computer window
  2. Select the format command (full format) to reformat the internal memory of the device.
  3. Reinstall the firmware from http://download.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads/opal_fwutility_v2.3.0.exe

Mp3 solution

Maybe you have too many songs or videos or pictures or whatever on your system. Go onto your computer, plug it in and delete a few songs/videos/pix whatever. I'm sure you can part with a few. This happens with many players.
