Hi there.
You will need to get some cleaning detergent so you can clean the jets and the internals of the machine, once the clean has been done you should end up with clean dishes.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a new product out specifically for this reason. It filters the water going into your dishwasher reducing the hard minerals that leave these spots. It is very affordable and goes right under the sink. You will be amazed how clear your dishes look after the first load. get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com.

Glasses /cups/dishes on the top rack don't get clean. they come out foggy, although I use Jet Dry daily

If you have hard water glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is to add some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1/4 of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

You can determine the cause of cloudy glassware by soaking a glass in vinegar for 5 minutes. If the cloudiness is removed it is due to hard water deposits; make sure the salt reservoir is topped up. Do not worry about over-filling it.
If the cloudiness is not removed, it is a permanent condition known as etching. In this situation, use less detergent and stop pre-washing. Dishwashing detergent needs a bit of soil to work on, otherwise it will tend to foam up.

My dishwasher is now leaving my dishes cloudy. What causes this?

Make sure that the rinse-aid(jet dry) container is full. If it is full have you noticed if it's level has not dropped. It is possible that the rinse-aid dispenser is plugged. This will cause the dishes to be cloudy. You can also try running the dishwaher empty and add a cup of vinegar to the bottom before your start. There is also this stuff called "dishwasher magic" that you can try running in the dishwasher to clean it. Try using a soap with the rinse-aid in it or install a basket with a rinse-aid tablet and see if that helps clear up those cloudy dishes.

We bought a used Roper dishwasher not too long

I was having the same problem with a Roper dishwasher and the Palmolive Eco gel. After doing a little research, I found that the detergent I was using doesn't work well with hard water. I emptied the machine, then poured in 2 cups of white vinegar and ran it on a complete cycle. This cleaned out any hard water residue build up inside. I then begin using electrasol with jet dry tablets for detergent and filling the rinse agent reservoir with white vinegar. I have had no problems since.
As for the heated dry, is it really heating or are you just feeling the heat left over from the very hot water used in the washing and rinsing?
