my burner is having a problem. im using nero 7. everything goes fine during the burning process. for example, if the dvdr contains 5 files, usually only 2 files will work, the other three is there, but they wont open. and when i open those 3 files, my pc starts to hang.

    any ideas? tq.

I have the same piece, and it reads cd but not dvd, anyone can help?

Have the same problem, it used to work and suddenly it wont do it anymore. I guess this is due to windows XP updates. Windows says that the driver is up to date and I also installed the latest firmware. I am using Nero 7 to burn. I had troubles before but somehow fixed it. Now when I insert a DVD (data) and try to open the dvd drive the whole computer hangs. The content shows for a moment before the computer freezes so it IS in the DVD.

DRIVERS NEEDED

All optical drives use ATAPI drivers, these drivers are native to Windows. Physically install the DVD player and it will be recognised, depending on what type of CD and DVD burning software you have your drive may not be recognised by them.
OEM burning software will only work with the optical drive it was supplied with, retail burning software should work with any drive.

SH-S182 installation

before anything else.. your computer must not be plugged in
have some screw drivers ready

open the case
remove the connections of your old cd/dvd-rom
remove the screws
remove the drive from the bay

replace it with your new dvd writer
replace the connections and the screws
put everything else back
then turn on your system :D
