Hi, The Hard Disk activity LED indicator blinks only when there is some Read/ Write activity. In your case if the LED is blinking frequently, it certainly means some activity. It could by due to the following reasons: - 1. Antivirus program automatically scanning the disk OR 2. Probably due to some virus activity.
So, I suggest that you may check the Antivirus program settings for any automatic/ scheduled scans (as some antivirus programs automatically start scanning the external drive). Secondly, if there appears any virus activity (which is likely) you should update the Antivirus program and scan the system. If you dont have the Antivirus program installed on your PC, to disinfect the system you may install antivirus, update it and scan. AVG 2011 Antivirus FREE Edition From the above link AVG can be downloaded and installed for FREE. Its basic antivirus protection. Install AVG and scan the system.
1. Install a AntiVirus program, update the and run a full scan & remove the infected files. (For free programs you can use AntiVir or AVG) -> Search and download from the net.
2. Install Malware/Spyware programs, update & run a full scan & remove the nasty files found. (For free programs, you can use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & SUPERAntiSpyware)->Search and download from the net.
If your Laptop infections is very serious, do the scanning in "Safe Mode" & remove any found "dangerous Files".
The disk is downloaded as an ISO file. The ISO files can be burned using software programs such as Nero. Burn the disk to a DVD instead of a CD by using a program such as IMGBurn.
Once the disk is burned, place it on a DVD or CD drive on the computer and restart the computer. After the computer displays its default first screen, the disk will scan and load the Hiren's Boot menu. The menu gives users three options. The options are to start the computer normally, load Mini Windows XP or load the disk. Choose the disk-loading option to work within the disk parameters and run in DOS. DOS is a simplified process that uses only text. The CD provides shortcuts to each utility.
Mini Windows XP
To clear a virus and use a large collection of Hiren's Boot tools, choose the Mini Windows XP option. A simple version of Windows XP will load on the computer. It might take a few minutes to load everything because it processes files directly from the CD. Once it has loaded, wait for the Hiren's Boot disk menu to pop up. Select the "Menu" option and scroll through the programs. The disk features Windows password hackers, registry cleaners and a large collection of antivirus software.
A main portion of the disk feature antivirus software. Spybot-Search and Destroy scans a computer for the most likely spyware and removes it. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware finds root kit viruses and Trojans that could affect computers and spread through networks. Super Antispyware is an all-in-one scanner that detects and eliminates all types of viruses. Run one scan at a time. Do multiple scans because one program might find a virus that another program misses.

first thing to do is try to install and scan your pc with an antivirus program...if you have one already...update your antivirus program. restart your laptop and press F8 to enter safe mode, in safemode, start a full scan.
when finished, reboot back to normal mode then download CCleaner. Scan you laptop using CCleaner to remove the temp files and fix registry issues, you can also disable the startup programs that you do not need to start automatically in CCleaner.
If you have a virus you can not delete or if your system will not boot up correctly and you suspect a virus is the problem, a recommended solution is to start your computer in safe mode and run a virus scan. By running your computer in safe mode, non-essential processes do not start and non-core components are disabled. In other words, only the minimum necessary programs will load. Tough to remove viruses, spyware and other malware usually have no chance to run and disrupt your system and can more easily be removed.
**To run a virus scan in safe mode, you must have active anti virus software installed on your computer.
To run a virus scan in safe mode, follow these steps:
