I have lost my ink level viewer. Hp Photosmart c5100 series. It used to show everytime I printed but now it is not there and I can't seem to recall it.

No, I always use HP ink. I am talking about the view screen on the side of the printer itself. Whenever I printed it would show the ink levels and it was so nice to just glance and see what they were. Now that feature is gone and I have went through the menu on the physical printer (not software) and cannot bring it back. I was wondering if it was an automatic thing that happened if I was low on a particular cartrige (there are 6 of them). If anyone has this printer I would sure love to hear from you. Thank you.

Did you install non-authentic HP cartridges? It doesn't like that and witholds information as punishment.
Try putting the following address into your web browser:
http://192.168.1.6/
this brings up my ink levels. However, I don't understand these things and you may need your own individual printer specific code.

Ink level

1. First go to your HP Solutions Center (for a PC it's START --> PROGRAMS --> HP --> HP Solutions Center
2. Once that comes up click on SETTINGS --> STATUS --> VIEW INK LEVELS
3. To set your computer up to automatically tell you the ink levels everytime you print, then click CONFIGURATION and check the box that says "Display Ink Status Window", click the APPLY button.

Cannot see ink levels

Inkjet printers do not detect ink levels period. An estimate of level is made by the software. It calculates the volume of ink that was dispensed during printing pixel by pixel. If you re-install the software the tally is lost. If you want to convince the software that the cartridges are full then go though the procedure of renewing the cartriges but put the old ones back in. If I were you, I'd completely ignore the displayed levels of ink, its worthless technocrap. Your eyes are the best judge of whether the cartridges need replacing or not when you look at your prints.
