Find a good jewelry cleaner where you can soak jewelry (rings, earings) and let only the band soak. Use a soft or medium toothbrush to finish with the band, then dip the toothbrush in the cleaner to clean the rest.

Wil not run

Could be a lot of things. Cleaned and oiled isn't the same as overhauled. A bad cleaning will just move some particles out of the way, temporarily. Eventually, they can stop a watch. A part could have broken during the cleaning. You may have "over wound" (jammed gear) the watch and it's stuck. So, sorry, but no single answer. Yesterday, I bought a watch that was supposedly cleaned. I removed the back to authenticate. It was dirty. So... A reputable place is important. Size of store or advertising is not. Do some checking. Good watchmakers are hard to find.

A good watch overhaul can cost at least $125 and well over $600 on higher end brand name watches. Average is about $160 at retail.

Ladies Automatic Movement With date ,The watch will not wind wth the crown or by shaking the watch.Second hand never moves.

It sounds as if your watch is in need of some TLC by a watch repairer. (I assume that it is not under warranty; if it is, go to Fossil.com and click on customer service in the menu at the bottom of the page).

Have you dropped it onto a hard surface?

If the watch is several years old, then cleaning might help.

I suggest you take it to a local watch repairer and ask him to look at it and advise you on what needs to be done.

I have an automatic raymond weil geneve watch with the yellow chrono, that is less than 2 years old which has stopped working. I wind and wind and nothing. Help please.

this sounds like one of the wheels of the watch movement is broken or else the movement itself needs to be cleaned and oiled up.

Helloi have an Elgin watch I am trying to sale I am not trying to get lowballed on the price..if you could help me out and tell me how much it is worth the info is b.w. Raymond Elgin 571 u-s-a V531181 8...

mcdevito75 here, Elgin, a fine, fine watch, If the name on the dial says Lady Elgin it could be worth more, but the fact it"s an Elgin counts alot also. Older Elgins are also worth more as they are collectables, Let"s say your Elgin is 20 years old and in fine . fine shape, no scratches, tarnishing and is keeping great time it"s worth could be $100.00 -- $150.00 Of course this depends on many factors as mentioned. If your Elgin is say only 5--10 years ols it"s value in my opinion is approx.$75.00 -- $100.00 Bset Bet, visit a few jewelers in your area, many will give a free apraisel on the value of your Elgin.

Bulova Millenia 100 m,stops running,move it to wind,starts up

When you say "wave wind" do you mean you're waving it around to wind it with the self-winding mechanism? If so, that will only keep it running briefly as you're experiencing. Manually wind the crown about 40 turns clockwise to "fill the tank" and wearing it daily will keep it topped off. Anytime you don't wear it for a day, manually wind it again. As for the cleaning, the inside of the watch doesn't get real dirty but over time the lubricants wear out and thicken which makes the watch run slowly or not as long as it has to work harder to move the gears through the thickened lubricant. A watchmaker can disassemble and clean the old lube out with solvents and then reassemble the watch with fresh lubricants.

How to adjust a Lord Elgin wrist watch ca. 1950 so that it keeps good time. Currently it loses about 5 min./day.

The first thing I'd recommend for a 60 year old watch is to have a watchmaker clean and oil it. Over the years the oil gets thick and gummy and slows down the watch as you're experiencing. Once it's properly cleaned and oiled the watchmaker will test and adjust it to ensure that it keeps good time. This is not a DIY job but one for a trained watchmaker with the proper tools, lubricants and experience.

Sounds like a broken main spring.

This is a fairly easy fix and may also be due for a cleaning and service.

Find a local repairman in your area.

How to repair antique Elgin Pocket Watches i want a manual

  1. Stay away from interfering with your watch. This is a job for the expert, that has the knowledge, the tools and years of experience behind him. Buy an old 'banger' of a watch for a few dollars and mess about with it. Dismantle a portion of it and then see if you can reassemble it wiyhout doing damage.
