Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

Netgear WGR614 internet light not coming on

Hello!
I have the netgear router WGR614, and it was working fine yesterday. We moved it to a new room, and now the router isn't working. The internet (LED?) light isn't coming on.
It isn't working wirelessly or with our two other computers that are plugged into it.

The modem is working fine - as that is how I can send this email to you - when I'm plugged directly into the modem the internet works.

In the network section of the computer, a network called "unidentified network" is showing up.

Please help!

Thank you,
Kelly

Yes. the power button, the checkmark button, the "i" with the little circle under it, and the number are all lit up.

that didn't work, the router is still coming up as unidentified, and doesn't give a internet signal thru the LAN or wireless.

Hi there.
Reset the wireless router by removing the power cord from the back of it for 30-60 seconds, then plug the power back in wait for 2 mins then try to reconnect again.
If you get no joy please post back for aditional advice.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Are there any lights that are on on the router?

Ok, firstly unplug the modem for 60 secs, while its off get the router and reset it back to factory, on the back of the router you will find a reset button, keep that pressed in for 30 seconds and release, then power the modem back up and wait for 2 mins then try again.
Please keep me informed as to your progress.

    Good luck

No connectivity to 2nd desktop or laptop - although worked before

Hello....sudden loss of wireless on two computers, in the same home, may indicate that a powerful source of wireless interference has just arrived (since your wireless router light is still on).

1) Does the signal improve if you move the router, or move the laptop closer to the router?
2) Have you had any success with changing the channel on your router? (Login to router > select Wireless Settings > Channel)

If you have not moved furniture yourself, or installed a device which could interfere with the signal (eg a DECT phone), it's possible a neighbour's new router may be the culprit.

Please come back to Fixya if this does not help.

Yellow Ethernet Cable

Hello,
Ethernet cables can come in all colours (very unhelpfully). The cable you need has RJ45 connectors at either end, which are clear.

It goes by many names: you are looking for Cat5e or Cat6, ‘straight’ or ‘patch’ cable, which is used to connect, say, a computer to a router. Do NOT use ‘crossover’ cable.

Netgear has some info here (a little out of date but OK:)
