GE XL 1800 MW recirc motor open and closes flap on its own every 10 secs.

GE XL 1800 MW recirc motor startes and opens and closes flap on its own every 10 secs.  I've unplugged it to try and reset but it continues with the same pattern when I plug back in.

This may have already been dealt with, but others can benefit from an accurate, thoughtful reply to this problem.

We would need the full model number ot be sure, but I would suspect that a limit switch (the same kind of switch found in the door) has gone bad, and is not telling the control unit that the door is fully extended or closed.

I doubt that the board's bad, but even if it is, we can repair them in most cases.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Sounds like the control board has gone bad and will need to be replaced.

GE spacemaker profile xl 1800 moving vent will not close

I'm betting your base model number is JVM1860, JVM1861, JVM1870, JVM1871, JVM3660, or JVM3670.
That's the automatic louver you're having trouble with. There are micro switches in the louver assembly which tell the controller when the louver is open or closed.
If one of those switches or the louver motor fails, the louver will not work correctly.
Did your cooktop lights recently fail?
Sometimes the surge from them shorting will cause damage to the circuit board, which can be repaired.
There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
There is a video here showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

GE Spacemaker XL - fan stopped working, light will come on and timer will count down.

either the magnatron fried , or the fuse fried... either way the microwve has to be taken down and opened up.
If you have the serial number , GE will send you a replacement magnatron (but will not service the unit for you).
contact GE and they will take care of you... the magnatrons are warranted for like 10 years....

My GE 1800 microwave turntable has stopped turning

There is a motor underneath the microwave that rotates the turntable. The motor may not be getting power or the motor may have failed.

My GE XL 1800 is making a huge racket. It still

I had the same problem. You need to replace the turntable motor. I used a local appliance repair shop and they charged $45 for the motor plus $65 labor(a house call). I just checked with searspartsdirect.com and they have the motor(part # WB26X10038) for $22.27. Oh well, at least it works.

Fan & Turntable start when door is opened.

sounds like there is a switch that is bad. you can go buy a new MW for about 200$ and in yours if there is a major problem then i would just go buy a new one but might be worth a repair man to come check it out

pleas do not poke around in the microwave as it carries a charge of 5000volts and can kill you even if not plugged in DON'T TOUCH THE WIRES WITH BRAIDS ON THE OUT SIDE if you must get inside of the unit

Microwave turntable

The solution is very simple. Unplug the microwave first. Remove the round dish. Remove the circular riing with the rollers and set aside with the dish. Carefully with a butter knife, pry up the coupler and set aside. Examine to make sure it isn't broken or cracked where it slips over the motor shaft. Remove 5 Phillip head screws from the bottom pan and it hinges down out of the way exposing the motor. Remove 2 screws holding the motor, slip off the plastic dual flat connector and slip back onto a new motor $52.25 + shipping from GE parts. Remember your actual MW Model number is NOT XL-1800 but it is on a metal tag inside the MW on the left side. Put the motor screw in as removed so the shaft is free to stick up the hole in the bottom of the MW. Put the pan screws back up, put the coupler on, the ring in and then the dish and line the slots of the dish up with the star coupler so it catches. Turn on MW, touch the turntable button and make sure it is "ON" and not "OFF" and it should be, with the door shut, turning like a quiet little top as new.
