Hi

If your dryer is making noises and vibrates then you'll need to check for the following--

  • Rollers --Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

  • Idler pulley --Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

  • Glides --Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

  • Rear drum bearing --Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

  • Blower wheel --Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

That is often caused by a broken drum bearing spider.

I have a stackable washer/dryer gas maytag. Purchased around 17 years ago. The dryer is not drying clothes. Gas is powered fine and it is heating up. The cycle seems shorter than normal

Hello,
The problem with it not drying is most likely going to be a worn out blower wheel thats slipping and not moving the warm air through the clothes to dry them properly. Always a pretty good sign the blower is slipping is,if you hear a rumble noise from the dryer at start up and also that same rumbling noise when the power stops. So if you hear it at start up...wait 30 seconds and open the door and listen for the rumble noise as drum stops. also you can check where the vent exits the house and see if their is air flow when the dryer is running.

Loud rumble sound, Vent hose vibration

That model of neptune dryer had a problem with the blower housings cracking. When the housing cracks, it binds forward into the blower wheel making a loud "rumble" noise and vibration. If you open the door and manually turn the drum and you hear a rubbing noise and feel alot of resistance, then you have a cracked blower housing and need to replace it. It is not an easy job to replace, so if your not familiar with dryers, you should have a technician replace it. Let me know if you have any further questions. shane

Loud rumbling noise with slight vibration

Normally the noise you hear is caused by the drum rollers having flat spots on them or needing lubricant.
If this is what is wrong It will make a kind of thumping noise.
When they need lubricant they will normally make a squealing noise also. You would lube the shaft and bearing area of the roller, using a good machine oil...something like "3 in One" oil.

Dryer makes rumbling sound when starting

If you remove the front cover and access the blower fan and see if it is still tight on the shaft. if it isn't it makes a rumble sound when started due to vibrating and after a while it makes more noise as it goes. Now I removed the fan and placed a shim in the flat area and matched the flat area of the shaft and replace it back on the shaft and it should solve it.

Electric dryer makes a rumbling when tumbler is turning.

Check the drum bearing, a load noise, and often spinning problems are symptoms of a bad drum bearing. The bearing is at the base of the drum and accessing it is not easy.

You can find diagrams and replacement parts entering model number here.
