External Hard Drive - Beyond Micro

Beyond Micro seems to have closed their shop and I've lost the power adapter of an external hard drive model - BMMDU2. The drive does not say the type of adapter (power/voltage etc.) needed. Just thought will post this question in case you know either about the power adapter for this specific drive or your recommendation of in general what to try. I have lots of important data on this drive so any help is much appreciated.

Most external HDD's require 12V and about max 2A.
Safe way to go is to try a 5V supply first and see if it works, better scale up with the voltage then down, but the 12 V is a requirement for the motor, while a scaled down 5V will be used for the electrics.

Lost or misplaced power supply for Beyond Micro Micro Model BMMDU2 External hard Drive. Need info on Wattage input. Please and Thanks if you're able to hrlp.

Well, looks like Beyond Mico web site has gone to the great Beyond.

From units I have been able to find online, it looks like the power supply is between 20 and 40 watts.

The hard drive unit itself should be able to supply you with the required DC input voltage (hopefully there is some kind of label on the enclosure).

You could try one of these or something similar. It comes with 6 interchangeable heads and has adjustable DC voltage. This is just one of many available.

http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-ACD477-100-240V-Voltage-Adaptor/dp/B000Z31G3M

I cannot guarentee any of these supplied heads will fit your particular drive (same with the dc voltage). But some local retailers often have these types of adapters and you might be able to determine what size you need by looking at one.

I have used DC units similar to these in the past when I have lost a power supply.

Hopefully with a minimum of effort you can get a working solution.

My Beyond Macro External hard drive model no BMMDU2 has stopped working.. It shows up in list of "Safely remove Hardware" but windows XP professional SP3 is not assigning any letter to...

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Need a power supply for Beyond Micro BMMDU2 drive. What is the voltage and current rating? Also, has this company been rebranded?

Mine came with a "DVE Switching Adapter":

(Model: DVS-120A15FUS
Input: 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 0.7A)

Output is +12V, 1.5 A

Diagram indicates that the outer shield is negative, I think.

My Beyond Micro External Hard Drive (Model BMMDU2) stopped working. I tried to plug it in to working outlets but it just doesn't power on. Can I access the Owner's Manual online?

Beyond doesn't have much in the way of tech support or manuals, but I can tell you that if it doesn't power up, a new power adapter will cost you as much as simply replacing the whole enclosure.

Take the device to a local PC shop and ask the techs there to move your drive into a new enclosure, they should be able to do that for $20-$40 and you will save a lot of headaches trying to deal with Beyond.

Hope this helps FixYA,

Chris

Laptop Won't Recognize External HD

You can try opening the device manager in Window XP and uninstall the external hard disk (make sure you show unplugged devices).
Then replug the drive again, and it should reinstall the drivers.
