Hi there, same thing happened to me and It was really frustrating, to a point where I was about to smash my PSP! But don't do that, It wont fix anything... Instead, I will propose you something....
For all those people who have the problem of a PSP stopping to read REAL SONY CARDS, first, make sure that the problem comes from the PSP card reader and not the card. To do so, simply test 2 or 3 different cards in your PSP, and If your reader is "damaged", the orange light will keep on blinking... You can also test these same cards on another psp if you have one in hand. They should work perfectly (if the problem is your psp card reader...).
After making sure that your problem is located in the psp, thats what you will do:
- The problem might simply come from the fact that with allot of use, the pins inside the reader don't touch properly the connection contacts from your cards anymore. At least that's what happened to me, and I believe allot of people had the same problem...
What I simply did was to laminate a little piece of cardboard a little thinner than the card and a little longer, to be able to take it out when you need so. After making that piece, all you have to do is insert it with the card (on the card side that doesn't have pins --> where the sony logo is) and voila, you reader will start reading cards again, just like it always did!
This is a simple, cheap, and working method! No need to risk opening the Psp for nothing!!
Hi all,
This problem can be easly fix... is just a matter of making your memory stick touch all the pins of your psp... If you want to see a video of how I fixed this problem on my psp please check my video on youtube...
My wife's PSP had this same problem-- it stopped reading the memory card. I checked the memory card in my PSP, and the card was fine, I looked inside the card slot to make sure none of the prongs were pushed back (which they weren't). I made a jig out of 8 strips of yellow legal tablet paper a bit narrower than the memory card, folded it in half where the creased end fit into the card slot and slid in on the opposite side of the prongs than the card connected, which repositioned the prongs to get a good connection on the card. After inserting the jig into the card slot a couple times, I reinserted the memory card into the PSP, and once again it would read the memory card. This might not be the problem all the time, but obviously this time the problem was that at least one of the prongs wasn't getting a good connection on the card.
I hope this helps someone else!

so many people have this problem, and mosts forums you read focus on the stick, but its the psp man. I have 2 psp, the sticks work on one and not the other, its definatley the PSP.
format your card using your psp console. try it atleast 5 times
MaYbe its the memory stick .. its the bronze colored thingy that is connected w/ the reader in the psp ... maybe its scratched or something check it out ..
Easier I think than using a piece of laminate, I just put a bit of scotch tape on the side without pins and it read the card right away.
Wow, this seems to be a common problem, i see this alot. This problem could be the memory stick, buy a new ine or reformat the card, with the psp(system settings then frmat memory card). For the problem with no folders, you can simply add them. just add a folder called psp and fill it with new folders called(music, videos, games) that should fix that no folder problem.
try formatting it on your computer with a card reader. then insert it into your PSP.
this problem seems to be due to the forks not touching the memory card when its inside the psp system . but i suggest taking it back to sony and see what they can do but just for now have you tryd cutting a bit of paper to the size of the momory card but just a little bit longer so you dont lose it in the psp . and place the paper in with the card and it should make it touch the card reader inside the psp . but this dont allways work seems to work on some bat not all . if you have any questions send me a email on lstewa32@hotmail.co.uk . add me on facebook by my email or if you have a playstation 3 add my psn lstewa32 hope this works for you

hi my psp has this problem when i transfered games to my 4gig sony memory stick some data are corrupted and occupies the gig ex. i transfer 200mb games my free space became lesser like 191mb since i had only transfer 1 games and i have 4 gig memory stick..pls help...smetimes when i open my psp..there's a note memory cannot be read pls format...and still the same problem i encounter..:( pls help!!! thanks
OK,
The problem is not the stick. I have two sticks and the same problem in both.
I took my PSP to work and gave it a thorough cleaning using a compressed air can. I blew air in litterally every orifice I could find on my PSP.
Since then it has only repeated the problem once and it went away quickly.
I'm thinking that over the two years that I have had my PSP there has been some dust or lint build up on the motherboard or something. My next step will be to dissasemble the unit completely and go at it again with the compressed air.
Solution #13 worked for me.

I have the same problem. I just received a brand new 8gig memory stick today and it still won't work right. The only solution is to get a new PSP.
I had the same problem and I posted it here on fixya. I found out the problem. Your memory stick is just corrupted and you need to format it. You cannot format it with the psp because obviously the psp cannot read it. You format it by using an 80gig ps3. It must be an 80gig or higher because they have a slot were you can put the memory stick in. I fixed mine by using my brother-in-law's ps3. HOPED THIS HELPED!
I had the same problem and I thought it was the card, but I was wrong, all the different formatting were useless. In my case the problem was with the PSP memory stick slot pins. With a flashlight/torch I could finally see that the seconf pin was missing, it had been pushed into the device I guess, so the card is detected by the reader and you can see the flashing of the red light but the card can not be read. So in my case was a mechanic problem, and I have had my PSP only 1 week, so a bit frustrating.
my psp keep sayin there is no games but i hav already download it!!!help plz!!!
I have 2 psp's & 2 memory sticks. The 1gb worked in both with no problems but my 4gb only showed up in my black psp. My white psp didnt even recognize it. Both psp's connected to my PS3 perfectly too. A couple of the previous' post said to put cardboard on the non pin side of the card, but as i couldnt fit even thin c/b, i was able to fold some paper & insert it at the same time & woo hoo it worked.
Thank you guys, as after hours of trying this & that i still cant believe it was something so simple.

I HAVE A PSP I INSERT THE MEMORY STICK BUT MY PSP SAYS NO MEMEORY STICK INSERTED
I believe my solution was found in... Solution 26. By Jaxx25. I removed the plastic prongs because they were ascew. I know see more clearly the slight indent on one of the middle bronze platelets. FML. I tried the "lamination" method of putting tape on the side of the memory card as to help it connect with all the prongs but got nothing. I guess sometimes the cute costs $40 for a new memory card. Wish sony would just use a normal micro. Hope this helped.
How about this one. I have two memory stick, 4 Gb and 16 Gb. The problem is whenever I transfer game into the 16 Gb stick (I try to occupied all the 16 Gb space), some games cannot be started. I try transfer different games few times and it turns out there will always be a games that cannot be started. So, I try transfer the same game that cannot be played in the 16 Gb stick into 4 Gb and as I expected, it works well. So, I'm assuming it's not the games problem. What do you guys think?
My problem is that I have 2 psp's and a 8gb mem card and a 4 gb mem card the 4 gb mem card works perfect in both cards but its not the same with the 8gb mem card when i insert the 8gb card the light keeps on blinking my pc doesn't evn reads it it just sayd that the card needs to be formatted and then finish!!!!!!I'm in a gr8 problem i need to fix it right away anybody please help!!!!!!!!!!!

it happened to my friend your psp ms reader is damaged
This has happened to me as well with my 4 gig and 2 gig cards, the original 32meg would read. What's worked everytime for me is pluging the charger in, push in the card, and boot it up. works everytime for me. Mind you, I'm not saying it'll work for everyone else.
my psp memory card slot is not reading it might be that one of the metal card readers have gone inside the psp nd u have to take the back off it to poke it back out!!!!!
i have the same problem. bue mine it cant read games properly but i just hit the back part where the memory stick is until the light blinks, that means the game is starting
1. remove memory stick for a time.
2. rub every conductor filings with rolled paper to statistically discharge the object.
3. chkdsk the disk after has been read.
fix system errors
scan and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

The best way to check if the memory card has the problem or the memory slot is bad is to try a different card and see if the PSP will read it if it reads a different card so the old card is bad but if it wont read a different card the slot is bad and need some repair........
