Generic problem for all Dishwashers

hi there
I have a fault with the dishwasher. when i try and switch it onto wash, it produces a loud beeping, and all lights apart from the last 2 flash.
i dont want to pay £70 per hour labour. is it something simple i can fix?

thanks for your response, and it does look like i will have to call out the engineer.

I have a new whirlpool dishwasher and the have never used it but everytime I turn it on it starts beeping and stops after a few minutes. The light also starts flashing. What can I do?

Guruthere is a fault obviously, start to check for things in this order
water supply to unit
door catch
heater element
waste pump,
actually i think it could be the water supply as you said it does nothing before beeping, if the water supply is going to the machine it could be the solenoid, thats the part thats let the water in to the machine, this part is difficult to replace on most models
