Question about Epson Stylus Photo R300 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Epson r300-service required, but worked fine day before

Printer will not respond to anything now, i assume it has to be serviced first before it will work again. is there anyway to get rid of message on the screen, so that it may work again. i have owned this printer for 5 years exactly, so it most probably be a built in message,i think.

Hi,

You're experiencing the printer equivalent of a small child with a full nappy... The printer has reached a point where it believes that it's waste ink pads (again the nappy analogy) have filled with waste ink from cleaning routines, etc... so it's trying to tell you that it needs someone to change it.. Preferably a nice expensive Epson technician ;)

The good news is that this is probably one of the most documented issues in the Epson inkjet history and the fix is pretty simple.

You can take your printer to a service center and get them to change the pad over

OR

You can modify the printer to use an external waste tank (either a home made kit or one purchased on the web).

The instructions to handle the latter are available in various places and this forum post links many of them together whilst also dealing with the method for resetting the waste ink counter which will clear the "Service required" error you're seeing now.

Hope that helps and if you hit problems, please ask again.

Best of luck.

I would like to unlock my printer from the service required mode

Assuming you are referring to an R300 then you can use the keys on the printer itself to reset the waste ink counter and get out of the "service required" mode.

1. Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance' and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds, a message will come on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn off.

2. Turn your printer off and then back on - job done.

IMPORTANT
When resetting the counters you should really replace the waste ink pad or fit some form of external waste ink tank, like a Printer Potty, as the pads will eventually oversaturate and start leaking waste ink out of the printer or backing up ink into the printhead causing clogging.

Epson Stylus Photo R300 My printer has stop

Hi,

I apologize for a delayed response as i was not at my desk.

I am sorry to hear regarding the problem.Unfortunately, this is a common problem on this printer. There is only one reset procedure that might work. Press and hold the ' Stop ', 'Maintenance ' and ' Power ' buttons for about 10 seconds. Then turn the printer off, and back on.

Note - You still need to get the ink absorber changed.

The repair is not economical as Epson would charge anywhere between $100 - $300 for repair. You could look for the below procedure to DIY :

http://forums.steves-digicams.com/photo-inkjet/50071-epson-r200-210-r300-310-mod.html

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Epson programmed their printer to monitor the waste ink counter andyour printer has reached the maximum value allowed, you have to resetyour printer to clear the waste ink counter.

You may read the information regarding "end of life" and "waste ink counter" here: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp

To reset the counter, download re-setter program here, install and follow the instruction in the web site.

Service required error

Ok.. aside from the fact that you've posted under the R300 Epson model thread you're still in luck.

The CX6600 has been documented (by me admittedly) with a complete guide to fitting an external tank and resetting the waste ink counter in the printer.

Just to note: This is a commercial site but the information provided is generic and will help you fix the problem.
