Question about Epson Stylus Photo R2400 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have an Epson R2400 printer and the print head scrapes on the paper and leaves horizontal lines across the photos. I can hear the print head when it scrapes the paper. I can do the print head cleaning and it works for one print, then the same problem.

Thanks, I've done all that. New set of cartridges, auto and manual head cleanings, print head alignment. I still get the lines and scraping sounds.

Thanks, that's what I have pretty much determined. Thanks for your help!

that means the heads are pressing to hard on the paper and that you will need to take it to a repair center it can be that the cartrige holder broke from the shaft.

I've just solved a problem with the same symptoms - it is NOT as serious as this post implies. In my case, the problem was caused by a build up of ink and paper residues on the corners of the left hand edge of the bracket on the underside of the print carriage, that holds the print head itself in place. It is difficult to describe, but obvious when you see it. To solve it, you need to remove the print head from the machine - instructions are in the Service Manual, which is readily available on the internet - then turn it upside down, when you will immediately see the culprit. In my case, it was a little *****, 3mm or so high, on the corner of the metal bracket that secures the print head itself in place. Considering that it was presumably formed from ink and paper residues, it was surprisingly hard. I very gently attacked it with a cotton bud soaked in warm water, with a few drops of washing up liquid added. After a short while, the residue softened, and could be gradually cleaned away.
There was another, smaller, lump on the other corner of the bracket, that responded in the same way. While I had the parts out, I removed all visible ink deposits from the head assembly and the paper path, then put it all back together again. A couple of head cleans later, I produced a perfect print with no scratches, and the problem has no recurred.
Note - the Service Manual says that a full re-calibration of the printer is necessary if the head is removed. As this involves special test gear, which I don't have, I ignored it, and haven't seen any problems so far.

Hi, When printing photos, my photos have horizontal light coloured lines across them. When I print the nozzle check pattern all colours match the guide with the exception of the light magenta....

Epsons are notorious for this sort of problem, especially in used infrequently as ink residue dries on the print head; try using a cleaning cartridge, or swab around relevant print head with cotton bud and ethanol/isopropyl alcohol. Here are examples of cleaning carts, there are others http://www.internet-ink.co.uk/epson-cleaning-cartridges/ http://www.icompinkcartridges.co.uk/epson-r200-r300-r220-r320-r340-cleaning-kit.html

This evening I bought a new HP Photosmart C4780 printer. I am trying to print photos now and the photos are being printed with small vertical lines across the whole photo. How do I get rid of them?

> I bought a new printer

Take it back, and get one that does work correctly.

> VERTICAL lines ACROSS the whole photo

Hold the paper in "portrait" mode, not "landscape" mode.
Are the lines HORIZONTALLY-ACROSS the paper,
or VERTICALLY-DOWN the paper?

If those lines are WHITE and HORIZONTAL,
then some of the many ink-jets inside the print-head are *CLOGGED*.
Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle" to try to unclog it.
Or, exercise the WARRANTY, and get it replaced.

Printing horizontal solid lines across paper - have done all diagnostic testing but still solid lines across paper.

Hi

Well it is possible that the nozzles are clogged. You did good in troubleshooting the issue, normally head cleaning cycle will resolve that, but if it fails and out of warranty. Best suggestion is to get a new one since head cleaning cycle from printer settings will consume a lot of ink and not a guarantee to work in printers behaving like what you are getting when printing.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Epson stylus k3 r2400

Hi Lisa
The R2400 has the choice of two black inks, MK and PK. One is for Matt printing, the other (called photo black) is for gloss.
If the printer has the matt cartridge fitted it only allows suitable options, including paper choice, to be selected. If you change the black cartridge from the MK to the PK one, you should then have the choice of gloss paper.

I had this trouble, went through cleaning & realignment, then various print options. What i found was that dark colours had faint dark horizontal lines 5mm apart when printing on Photo in the epson driver. Changing it to Best Photo solved it.
