I have a dell inspiron mini 1012 netbook... The other day when I went to type the keyboard typed itself. Now it stopped typing itself but another problem occurred. When I press 1 letter, 2 letters pop

You can try removing the keyboard and reinserting. You should find instructions online, probably a video, on how to remove the keyboard. However, my bet is that it probably has to be replaced.

How much will it cost for repair of keyboard? It could no longer type in "a", "q", "1" without using using onscreen keyboard. Thnks

Seems a replacement keyboard for your model sells for around $35 on eBay. Once you get the new keyboard if necessary, I would be happy to walk you through replacing the old one or you could probably view someone doing so on youtube.

New netbook. Attempting set-up. Keyboard keys don't work. Nothing gets typed in. Just hear a click.

Disable the Numlock key and check if the same issue persists. You can reinstall the Keyboard Driver to resolve the issue. Uninstall the Keyboard Driver from the Device Manager and restart the Computer. The Computer will reinstall the Keyboard Driver when you restart the Computer automatically.

1. this issue is due to the contact in the keyboard have become worn and the keyboard is in need of replacement.
2. the keyboard connector cable has become loose to the mother board.
3.This will need a service tech to check.

Acer Aspire One A0A150 keyboard issue,

Sounds to be you just got a faulty keyboard from HongKong, if your old keyboard works except the the Z and the new keyboard works only with function keys, then it sounds to be that the new keyboard is not ment for your laptop. if anything you should of had the same problems as your old keyboard. try using a USB keyboard.

Compaq Presario C700 keyboard malfunction

What's your Operating System.
If you haven't tried it shutdown the computer then restart it.

I would restore the system to an earlier state.
In Windows XP you would go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
Follow the Directions and pick a restore date before your problem occured.

This should work.

Since you say that your mom's user works fine with the original keyboard, you can create a new user copy your files to that user and get rid of the old one.

Toshiba keyboard

Sounds like an Earthing problem.
I would remove keyboard and re seat the cable, try again.
If the problem persists then i would replace the keyboard.
Another thing you could try is install the keyboard drivers from the maker model site etc. Example, you need [function], [fn] keys to work and they usually need drivers that may not be included in Vista. Check out more diagnostics at

Keyboard function

the keyboard is broken and needs to be replaced, try booting into dos mode and see if the problem persists

you can get a dosboot disk / cd from

if the problem doesnt happen in dos then there is most likely a virus in you laptop. if the problem persists in the dos then the keyboard needs to be replaced.
