Close-up in a dark house

I want to take pictures inside my house, but it's so dark! I feel like I live in a dungeon. I have to use my digital camera to take pictures of the items I sell online. It seems as if I ALWAYS have to take the pictures OUTSIDE on a bright and sunny day, and then "fix" them on photobucket.com. Every time I even ATTEMPT to take a photo inside my house on the "close-up" option, it's blurry because close-up involves using no flash what-so-ever. When I try using the automatic option, the flash makes everything white and washed out. Do I need a better camera? I tried changing the level of "white" but to no avail. Help! My camera is an: i 532 Polaroid Digital Camera. Thank you!
