This sounds like your cd drive cannot read your xp cd completely. Borrow another cd and try or try a usb cd drive for the install. If your xp cd is a copy, it may not be readable in you cd drive for some reason. I've had this problem.

Lords of Magic wont run

Many older games have problems running on newer systems, and while windows' compatibility modes can sometimes help, most of these games require specific work-around to get them to work on a modern system with a modern OS. You will need to look for consumer support (IE: Forums) for the specific title you are trying to play as it relates to your hardware and OS. Sorry I could not be of more help.

My Fujitsu laptop LH700 cannot turn on. When I press the start button, the battery or power indicator blinks for a second then goes off. There's totally nothing on the screen.I tried to on the laptop...

Possible that PC is hanging up as there is fault on the OS ( operating system) or a virus in the OS. Also it is possible that the back up( CMOS) has low voltage or the memory card is a suspect. In this case you need to check the voltage and also try and swap a memory card. If not the OS is a suspect.

If the PC does not come on check the voltage on the battery terminal and the adaptor voltage. If there is no BOOTING then you must check the motherboard for errors.

If the PC boots up in any chance and tends to work slower and occasionally hanging when a program is being executed then you might have to install the OS once again. Install the OS and then an antivirus before the drivers of the PC is installed.

I am using Desktop- Intel(R), Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00 GHz, 1.24GB RAM. Windows XP. Problem- whenever I use my computer for slightly heavy data also, like google earth, or some movie, it shuts down abruptly....

It is best to go for a paid antivirus software which you can get in a package. Personally we are not recommending any particular company but you can try with Avira, Antivir, AVG, Kaspersky. It is always best to install the antivirus when the installation of the OS is done.

Now before this you can open the internet options in the browser and clean all the cookies, temporary internet files, defragment the drives and RESTORE the PC to an earlier set date.

You can use a registry cleaner like Advanced system care. Download from the site and check you system for corrupt files. Also use a good antivirus software which is active to keep your system performing without an attack on the OS. Remove all unnecessary programs installed which you do not use all the time and clean up the drives. This will free up the space and make your system faster.
If there is no response but the PC tends to work slower and occasionally hanging when a program is being executed then you might have to install the OS once again. Install the OS and then an antivirus before the drivers of the PC is installed.

The CPU cooling fan usually sits on top of a heat sink which is held tightly agaist the core of the CPU by the clasps you refered to. It soumds to me like the CPU has oveheated and will only function for a few seconds. If it's a fairly new CPU, you may be able to buy one online at places like http://www.tigerdirect.com. If it's an older model, you will have to try & find one at places like E-bay.

If you install a replacement make sure the CPU fan/heatsink clamps the CPU flush against the heat sink (apply a thin coating termal paste to the top of the CPU core).
NOTE: If the plastic clamps attached to the motheboard which hold the fan clips are broken - forget it! A new CPU will just ovehat again.

I have a HP Pavillion dv7 with a AMD Turion X2 64 processor. The system hangs sometimes before Windows OS has a chance to boot\initialize and sometimes right after POST. Ran memory checks and hard disk...

Hi david simms,

What you're thinking about the problem with the CPU is correct. Though you need to consider if it is overheating. Here's a simple step to further determine it.

Just access the BIOS setup by pressing F2 (or whatever is key is designed for the unit). Let it sit there and observe if it will freeze up, if yes, surely your guess is right.

Hope this helps.

Acer aspire 5572 problem

your problem is called BSOD (blue screen of death).
many thing can cause this problem.
most common thing that cause BSOD are Operating system, memory and harddrive.
sometime motherboard+cpu can cause BSOD too, but not as often as memory+hdd+OS.
you should re-installed it first, if you still have BSOD,
ask your technician to check hdd and memory, if they can check motherboard + cpu, it would be good for you,
