Have you tried channel 3 or the video input channels.
The Tv only needs the one channel that the signal from the box is sent on.
All the viewing channels will be changed through the satellite box.

If you hook to 1 you will choose the video 1 channel

If you hook to 2 you will choose the video 2 channel

Since you are going through the sat box either cable or dtv should work but being a direct service,I would set it to DTV

what type of cables are you using HDMI,RCA,S-video,Etc.....?

and are you hooking the tv directly to the sat box?

  • Randy Hough
    Randy Hough May 11, 2009

Not that I'm aware of,But Ez scan will find it as soon a signal is found from the box.

I'm looking at the service manual and I'll let you know if I find something other than what I have already posted.

I'm going to pass this to another expert while I continue to research the manual. They may be able to tell you something I missed.I will post any new details.

Its not your tv fault or your satellite unit problem.your satellite unit is not catching all the channels.its a frequency problem.whatever channels gets catched by the frequency that goes to the satellite unit and that channels shows up on the tv.as if the connection is faulty ,you will not get that two channels also.its just the frequency problem.once it gets used it will automatically catch the channels later on.as which ever channels come into its range. its not the tv connectiuon or setting problem.it also happens if the satellite unit which you have got is of low quality,as it that it does not have high frequecy catching capacity to show more channels. thanks.keep updated.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.

it is not necessary that it should be on DTV MODE. it should scan on any mode for channels.as the satellite unit is catching only two channels so its showing only two channels while auto scan.but you can try doing it on DTV MODE.
    hope this helps.thanks.

How to Setup Your Satellite TV System AnywhereInstructions

Things You'll Need:

  • DirecTV or Dish Network subscription
  • DirecTV or Dish Network receiver with power cords
  • DirecTV or Dish Network satellite dish
  • Stand for television
  • Power supply (either a car battery inverter or gas powered generator)
  • TV with speakers (LCD tv or computer monitor recommended for optimal power usage)
  • 25 foot heavy duty extension cord
  • Power strip
  • S-Video or RCA cables
  • Remote controls for the TV and satellite receiver
  • Spare supply of gasoline for your generator
  • Some patience

  1. Signup for DirecTV or Dish Network or ask a friend if you can borrow one of their satellite receivers. You will need an active DirecTV or Dish Network account and receiver in order to proceed. I recommend getting your own subscription to DirecTV or Dish Network if you are planning to do a lot of camping and tailgaiting throughout the year.
  2. Step 2 Determine where you will be using your satellite TV system (outside of it's main and intended location at your house) so you can purchase the proper equipment. You will need to make sure you have a power source and a portable satellite dish. You can setup your system in the most remote places but you need to be able to get a satellite signal and power for the TV and satellite receiver.
  3. Step 3 trying to find out what my tvs settings should be - wine2_thumb.jpg Purchase a portable satellite dish. When purchasing a satellite dish you need to make sure 1) you buy a dish that is compatible with your DirecTV or Dish Network system, 2) you buy a dish that has a stand of some sort (stands are not included with traditional satellite dishes since they are meant to be mounted on a roof or some place on a building) and 3) it has coaxial cables connected to it (you can have multiple feeds coming off of the satellite). I recommend going to an RV supply store and picking up a table top or car top portable dish. These dishes come with a stand and compass and the whole unit folds down into a flat, easy to carry device. You can also purchase dish tripods at Radio Shackmag-glass_10x10.gif. These allow you to mount a traditional satellite dish on top a tripod that you can put on the ground or on top of a truck bed or other elevated platform.
  4. Step 4 dsc02659_thumb.jpg Get Power. You can use your car battery, a dedicated battery powered external power source or a gas powered generator as your power source. If you plan to be using the system for over 3 to 4 hours you may want to invest in a dedicated battery power supply or a gas powered generator so you do not wear down your car battery. If you do decide to use your car battery you will need an adapter that hooks up to your car battery and provides normal electrical outlets for you to plug things into. This is called a power inverter. In addition to it acting as an adapter it also converts the DC current from your car battery into conventionl AC electricity for your electronics devices (TV, satellite receiver).
  5. Step 5 Setup on location. Once you get to your location you need to make sure your dish has clear line of sight to the sky. Make sure there are not too many trees or buildings that will interfere with your signal.
  6. Step 6 trying to find out what my tvs settings should be - dsc02657_thumb.jpgttp://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/2000908/DSC02657_Full.jpg">dsc02657_thumb.jpg Put the dish on top of your car, a table or on a tripod (depending on what type of portable dish system you bought). Again, make sure you have clear line of site to the sky. Run the satellite coaxial cable to the area where your TV will be. You will point the dish later once the TV and satellite receivers are powered up.
  7. Step 7 Start your generator if you have one. It is best to put the generator as far from the TV viewing site as possible so the noise and fumes are not near you and your guests. If you are using your car battery and inverter set that up at this time.
  8. trying to find out what my tvs settings should be - dsc02699_thumb.jpgpan> dsc02699_thumb.jpg Connect the satellite dish to the satellite receiver by putting the coaxial cable from the satellite feed into the "satellite in" connection on the receiver. Plug the receiver into the power sutrying to find out what my tvs settings should be - dsc02698_thumb.jpg
  9. Step 9 dsc02698_thumb.jpg Connect your TV to the satellite receiver. It is best to use RCA connectors, red, yellow and white. Plug those into your receiver and then into one of the corresponding trying to find out what my tvs settings should be - searching_thumb.jpgConnect the TV to the power supply.
  10. Step 10 searching_thumb.jpg Now that everything is connected you can start the on screen setup. Turn everything on and switch the TV to the proper input so you can see the DirecTV or Dish Network startup screen. It should say something like "searching for satellite signal" (I am using DirecTV as the example here, Dish Network's on screen setup will be different).

    1. Using your remote hit the "Menu" button to bring up the settings
screen. Use the arrow keys down and highlight "setup" and click OK.

    2. Step 12

After you click ok the setup main screen will appear with various options on the left hand side.

    3. Step 13

Highlight "satellite" and click OK. This will bring up the satellite configuration main screen.

    4. Step 14

Using your remote select "view signal strength" and click OK

    5. Step 15

Now select "signal meters" and click OK. This will take you to a screen where you can view your current signal strength.

    6. Step 16

      Once
you get to test signal meters screen you should turn the volume of your
TV set up where you can hear it. The on screen meter will show you
graphically how strong your signal is but the TV should also make a
beeping sound to help you know if you are getting close. The faster and
more frequent the beeps the closer you are getting to having a strong
      enough signal.

    7. Step 17

Once you get over 80% your signal will be strong enough.

    8. Step 18

      Now
that you have a strong enough signal you can go to the on screen guide
to select the channel you want to watch. To exit the screen you are in
select "done" on screen and then exit the setup menu. On your remote
click "guide" and your channel guide should come up just like it does
      at home.

    9. Step 19

      Now
that you can now browse all of the channels that you normally would at
home, pick one and enjoy! Congratulations, you have successfully setup
      your satellite TV system!
Hope I helped with the repair of your problem.
An Accept from you is how I get paid.
And a positive feed back tells me how I did with the repair.

Use an alternative receiver, or test the old receiver.

If you get the same problem (same kind of problem) on two receivers, then it is not the receiver, it is the Sat/Cable line, in that case call the cable company to fix the fault, or if you have an aerial of your own, check the aerial.

Do not forget to leave feedback afterward.

Thanks.

Do these TVs have tuners that allow then to pick up and view digital broadcast stations without being hooked to a cabelo or satelite system?

The Emerson LD195EM8 has both an NTSC (analog) and an ATSC (digital) tuner with an RF (coax) connector. So you will be able to watch current OTA TV without a set top box (cable/satellite/converter).

I hope this helps.

Hearing my television through my home theater system

Without knowing anything about your TV receiver all I can assume is that the TV has a least an RCA analog audio OUT. Run that to any available analog input on the HTS. make sure the TV's audio controls (hidden in a menu somewhere) is set to Fixed so the TV volume won't affect the HTS volume. Then you can turn the TV speakers off and still listen through the HTS.

You'll only get stereo this way. Ideally, you would have a digital audio source for the TV audio signal.

If you hooked up the satelite box to your tv Automaticly the Satelite box is the one who pick up the channels (from the satelite)
In this case your tv is acting as a monitor only. Try to connect your tv with HDMI cable or COMPONENT cable for best picture. Don't use RF antenna input to hook up your Satelite Box. Hope this Helps
