SOURCE: Homelite Trimmer Pull Start Cord

The part no. for the Spring and container is A98773A. You can Google the PN and find many sources. Expect to pay between $10.00 to $15.00. I like m-and-d.com If they have it in stock you will normally get it in 3 to 4 days.

SOURCE: I have a Troy Bilt TBP6040 XP 4 cycle weed eater

I just had this same issue. I found out that you have to take the cord out of the handle then put the spool in. You then rotate the spool back in and align the spool with the spring and fish out the cord which will put a small amout of tension on it. You keep the tension on it and put the handle back on.

SOURCE: gas weed eater pull cord wont retract after pulling cord

remove the cover and the screw holding the recoil down, turning the pulley ccw should release the spring then wind rope around pulley and (hopefully yours has the slot in it) wind in the direction of the pulley teeth then, holding rope in slot put back on spring and wind cw till almost tight, and install screw. Usually you can do this without taking rope handle off. sometimes you have to remove handle. look at spring end in the middle and make sure its not broke as long as you have it apart. Its a easy fix.

SOURCE: Replacing pull cord on weedeater

there is another t20 screw in the neck of the drum. once removed you will expose the drive clutch. soak it good with WD40 then unscrew it from the shaft. if you have all the housing screws out, you should be able to simply remove the housing to expose the pull cord assembly, screwed to housing.

The manual recoil starter I pulled starter slowly two or three times and then cord was loose no resistance what is the problem?

Sounds like the starter drive is jammed. Look for a large cog azt the back of the starter cord on the motor, manually push it in the opposite direction to the spin created when the cord is pulled.

Starter cord will not rewin

hi
your spring has stretched
inside your starter assembly where your pull cord winds round
inside you have a spring that is now bent the chinese call it a washer
either take it out and straighten it in a vice
or you will have to buy a complete wheel that you wind your pull cord round
regards

remove THE COVER THAT HOUSE THE PULL CORD pully. TURN THE WHEEL IN THE direction THAT IT GOES WHEN cord is pulled ( THIS TIGHTENS THE RETURN SPRING) hold this wheel tight..every turm it could spin back rapidly. turn wheel 6 complete turns. align the hole in the housing with the cord hole in the pully wheel. thread cord through both tie a double knot . slowly release now install cover. try it if too loose pull out to max , hold pully, remove knot , cord and turn 2 or 3 more turns, replace cord, double knots , slowly release. replace cover, crank it and cut that grass.

Weed Eater PE550 - How do you change the spring that operates the cord pull. Cord not rewinding. Spring broken

Lay the unit on it's side, carborater down. Removed the 3 screws holding hold the gear assembly housing. Hold the clutch assembly inside a cloth with a wrench and remove the nut. Left from the starter cup as a stack and set aside. There is a starter retaining ring on the shaft. Pull this with a long nose plyers. If it spings free, it is easy to loose. Then left out the starter pully. The starter spring is under the pully. Remove it with a sharp pointed tool. A broken one is crusted in rust and will be snapped off inside the coil.

Homelite st 155 pull cord wont pull out on my weed trimmer

this works by a spring, and there are 4 bearings in a clutch that help it to engage. Through wear and tear this can get to where it just doesn't work well anymore and needs cleaned. Remove the four screws that attach the motor to the clutch assembly. This will give access to the pull cord. Remove and be careful for the spring likes to shoot out when you remove the 4 tabs that hold the spool in. Clean, lubricate, reinstall, and you should be back to trimming.

Replace pull cord on ryobi model cs30 weed wacker

Good fix, mrfixit-jerr! Also, if you remove the rear cover (4 screws) you can stabilize the crankshaft by inserting a screwdriver between the lobe of the shaft and the counterweight.
