Question about Whirlpool Duet 7.0 Cu. Ft. Capacity Plus Electric Dryer

Automatic Dry cycle is not drying clothes - GGW9200LW0

Gas heating heating element seems to work fine. Flame comes on initially but when the cycle is complete the clothes are not dry. I think the cycle is stopping early. Manual timed cycles seem to work just fine i.e. flame comes on as expected and stays on throughout the cycle. I have already done a thorough cleaning of the exhaust lines.

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.
Below is a link to common solutions that will help you with parts and diagnostic procedures that are specifically tuned to your manufacturers data plate information.
It provides exploded view imagery, belt routing diagrams, parts imagery and function, parts ordering and shipping information, error code details, just about anything you need to get your appliance up and running again.

You may have faulty gas valve solenoids, especially since you've already replaced the other ignition components. Below is an image, (I hope), of the solenoids which can be found and ordered from the link above. A more rare cause can be a lint filter obstruction, i.e. the screen can be coated with an invisible film from using fabric softener sheets. Try running water over the filter screen, horizontally, and if water does not strain through, then replace the filter and stop using fabric sheets.

SOURCE: Amana LGA30AW gas dryer, approx. 9 years old,

HI, this will occur when the gas valve coils are malfunctioning. The coils are black, located on top of the gas valve. It is recommended to replace all coils (usually two or three) if found defective.

Note: Sometimes the whole gas valve may be defective, thus not letting the gas out. However, this problem is not common.

Yes, that open switch is the high limit thermostat. this will shutdown the unit and prevent it from heating. you must replace the open switch(thermostat) asap and, replace the thermal fuse as well.

You might want to replace the thermacouplar. Sometimes when they are going out , all will appear to be alright but as you stated it takes a long time for the flame to come back on. This sounds to me like the thermacouplar is going out.

Flame only stays on for five minuts. After start

the flame doesn't stay on the whole drying time, it cycles. The thermal fuse allows machine to work and heat up but the cycling thermostat directs the flame to come on and shut off. Do your clothes dry fine?

The dryer is not drying the clothes. Everything is running fine, but it does not warm up and dry the clothes

Not sure you have an electric or gas model but from your description, you aren't getting any heat generated. Could be a temp switch disabling the element ( electric) or gas from coming in to be ignited for a flame.. Please provide brand and model number so we can assist you more accurately...

Gas dryer

Welcome jessegonzales
Check the outside vent leaving your house does not have a screen on it.
Take the screen off. Even half blocked and the dryer will not dry well.

Possible solutions

1. Defective Heating Element

The heat produced from heating elements is measured in watts and a normal heating element will produce about 4500 watts of heat. If the heat element is shorted to the case, this will cause the heating element to operate on 110v and use only about 1/2 of the element wire. In effect, the heat produced will be only about 1/4 of the amount that should be produced and the end result is an increased drying time.
The normal method for checking a heating element is to check it continuity. With the element unplugged you can check the continuity from one wire post to the next. If the circuit is open, thent he heating element is faulty.
However keep in mind that the element could be shorted to the case as described above. In this situation it is possible to have continuity, but the element still be the source of the problem.
Let me know.

3.Defective Thermostat
The thermostats are responsible for maintaining the proper temperature in the dryer. Check the exhaust temperature of the dyer and if the temperature is above 150 degrees, you will most likely need to change the operating thermostat.

The thermostat can also fail in the opposite mode. It can prevent the element from heating at all. A failed continuity check at room temperature will verify this condition.

There are some special thermostats that are single pole double throw. These thermostats are often used to control the timer when set to the Automatic Dry cycle. If the dryer timer will advance in the Timed Dry cycle but not the Automatic Dry cycle, then the thermostat could be the problem.

4. Defective Gas Valve Coil (Gas Dryer Only)

If the gas dryer will light once but will not relight until it cools down, it is likely the gas valve coils are faulty. These coils loose some strength when subjected to heat. When they become old, the addition of heat may be enough to prevent them from opening the gas valve when hot. However the coils still work when when cool.

An easy way to diagnose the coils when the burner is not lighting, watch the ignitor. If the the ignitor glows for 10 to 15 seconds but no flame is created, then the coils are faulty. If the ignitor is not glowing the problem is elsewhere.

Recent Customer Symptoms:
The dryer burner doesn't always come on when starting. If the burner does come on, once it goes off if won't come on again until the dryer cools down.

One of these will solve the problem!

Dryer won't dry clothes completely. stops heating.

Clean vent 1st. Electric? Gas? More information is needed for sure. Does it come on and light up (assuming gas) then never light up again? or....are you running it thru like 3 cycles to get them dry? You say it stops heating......how long until it starts again....i assume that if you turned it on the next day that it would heat up right? (at leat initially) Can you see the heating element(or ignitor and flame)?
