Some computer do not come with an internal speaker. So then you would hear no beeps. Verify your pc has a internal speaker, either directly on the motherboard, or attached inside the case and plugged in to the motherboard. If you have a speaker, have removed the RAM, and hear nothing when powering on the system, you have a faulty motherboard. It would need to be replaced.

No display & blink power led

This sounds like a power supply issue. Are the fans in the system plugged into the board? If so, are they kicking on and off at the same time at the power light? Make sure you have a good working PSU and tried that in place of the one you are using.
If that doesn't work, start removing parts until you have just the motherboard and the case speaker plugged in (plus your power button of course). Once you have removed the faulty device, you should start getting a beep code from the motherboard. If you put a known good part back in and it does it again, then the slot on the board that the part seats into is bad (IE: RAM slot if RAM replaced, etc) and you need a new motherboard.

How to troublehoot a Portable compouter that will not POST (Power on Self-Test)

Basic troubleshooting for a portable no post is a fairly straight forward process.
  1. Disconnect any external devices and power the system on, see what symptoms occur. Does the system have power? Does it have any Video? Does the system flash LED lights or beep?
  2. If the system is getting power but not starting, and not indicators give any troubleshooting hints, then we simplify the system by removing all items we can and see if we get basic function. Items to remove are Battery, RAM modules, Wireless Cards and the drives. Depending on the design, some of these can't be removed by the user but most can be removed.
  3. If the system will now power on and give some sort of error (LED FLASH, BEEP etc) then Add 1 RAM module back to the system and see if you get video and errors about not being able to boot. If you do, start adding items back to the system one at a time and identify the failing component.
  4. If nothing makes any successful boot, then most likely failure is the mainboard (Motherboard) of the system.

Please help me to identify my problem

The system beeps when you remove the RAM. This means that POST is working correctly and the motherboard may be fine.

Check that the monitor cable connector that connects to the video card isn't loosely connected.

When you insert the RAM, there's no display. This may mean that the RAM is detected but still faulty. Try using another RAM, if you can. Also remove the Video card (if you have a separate video card). Then, re-insert it firmly, and power up the system once again.

If you don't have a separate video card, you should test the motherboard on the bench, that is outside the computer case. Remove the motherboard, RAM and power supply (and the video card if it's separate). Put it on the bench and power it up as shown here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/raspal.century/MotherboardOnBench#

You'd need to closely look on the motherboard to see which pins are for the power switch (marked as PW-SW, PWR, PWR-SW, PWR-ON etc). Then, short them with a screw driver, for a second, to turn the system ON.

Replace the RAM and the video card one by one, if the system doesn't give any display even on the bench. This way you can find out what is the problem.

Hope that helps,
Regards,
Raspal

My Dell 100L will not switch on and battery will not charge.

since the LED is orange it might be a ram issue. try to locate the memory modules in your computer then try to reseat them. or if you have 2 ram modules try to remove 1 first then try to turn on the laptop check if it will do the same thing. then try removing 2 ram modules check if it will beep. if no beeps ask for mobo replacement. if it has beeps take note of the beep codes.

Dell Optiplex GX260 Tower flashing yellow power button

Hi

Power up the Optiplex GX260 and check the QUAD Pack Diagnostics LEDs (located at the back). Compare the LED pattern to http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/solvprob.htm#1167139 for more info.

Ideally, to troubleshoot and resolve the issues, try removing all PCI devices, disconnect all external devices/peripherals including keyboard and mouse. You may leave the Monitor connected. Power up the PC and check for successful Power On Self Test (POST). If POST completes (generally fails on "Keyboard not present"), shutdown, connect keyboard and try POST again.

If all goes well, install PCI devices one at a time and test successful POST. This will help identity a failing device.
If issue persists, after removing all devices, remove the CMOS battery for about 90 seconds and try POST again. If same, remove all DIMMs (Memory) and check for beep codes. Compare beep pattern to http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/solvprob.htm#1176760.
NB: Ensure to remove power lead and press power button briefly to use up flea power before working in the system.

If the system beeps, it suggests that the CPU and systemboard are "likely" fine. Install one DIMM at a time and test successful POST. If there no beeps then the systemboard and/or CU is/are at fault.

Regards
Mike
