Question about Canon CanoScan 4200F Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Scanning slides with anoscan 4200F

When scanning slides, the scanner scans 2 or 4  slides OK and  then starts scanning part of the slide mount on the left, and cutting off the corresponding amount on the right. If I leave it for a day or two it will scan 2 or 4 slides OK but then starts scanning the mounts again.  The local agents attitude is "buy a new scanner"!!!   The scanning on the platen gives no problems.

Have you tried checking for a firmware update from the manufacturer?

Can I scan slides with Canoscan LiDE600F

Yep, The Canoscan LiDE600F is capable of scanning slides, however it is not possible to scan them in their mounts. If you dismount the slide, you can scan them using the film strip holder. This is not an elegant solution and you would have to remount your slides to use them as originally intended.

Black and white photos from many years ago now have a blue-green hue on them when they are scanned. it started after I scanned old slides.

Did you make changes to the scan type when you scanned the slides? It sounds like you have the scanner set to do a negative image as a slide would need.
Check the preferences for the scan type.
The scanning manual is available on Canon's Website.

I have a CanoScan 5200F

Because the slides are see through which means you will need a special add on for the scanner for it to support slides. If you have this already then make sure that it is fitted on properly so no light can get in the compartment where the slides are held during the scan

After the first scan through select the zoom in functionality to just scan the area you want to zoom in. That way the scanned image will be much bigger and better quality.

Scanning slides with the Epson Perfection 1250

To be honest, I have no idea of how you were able to scan larger transparencies in the past. The scanner and its software were never designed to do this and there is no workaround.
