Question about Refrigerators

Stops cooling, need to unplug, plug back in and it works for a little while

I have a Frigidaire Refrigerator model mrt21braw0. It stopped cooling the other day, the fridge and freezer were about 60 degrees, but is sounded like it was running. I unplugged it. Next day, I plugged it in, and turned it back on. It cooled great, the freezer was about 10F within about 1/2 hour. But when I came back about 3 or 4 hours later, it sounded like it was running, but everything was warming up again. The freezer was no longer frozen... Is this a thermostat problem? I cannot figure out how to get the cover off to test the thermostat, even - I removed 2 screws I can see, but it still does not pop off... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, so that is actually the temperature control I wanted to test. I'm not certain the best way to access the thermostat for the defroster - do I have to remove the back cover inside the freezer? Or can I get to it through the panel in the back where the power chord and other wires go in?

Ok, I spoke with a repair man the other day. I didn't mention in my post, but this is a 13 yr old machine. And I had heard some odd ticking noises the weeks earlier. When I described all symptoms, that it worked great for an hour or two, but then, even though all sounds like it is working (the compressor is humming, fans are running, air feels cold) but the freezer goes back up to 30-40 degrees, he feels that the compressor is most likely shot, and that my best solution is a new one. I had decided if it was the compressor I would not fix it. So it is going away :-(

    Thanks for your help.

Frigidaire side by side refrigerator and freezer not working

Hi on most cases if your freezer or fridge stop working correctly at some point by not cooling or freezing right. It my be backed up by ice in your unit. which will prevent your fridge from venting or draining on to the pan. I think the condensor or little look alike radiator will be frozen up. Most cases the drain area will be back up with ice preventing your freezer from working properly. Need to remove items from freezer and try to fix it by adding warm water to the drain area or call a profesional for help

Evap fan stops running/low cooling, Unplug Frig Evap fan runs

Is there anything obstructing the fan area, ice build up ? It is normal for your freezer to get warm if evap fan is not working, it is essential for it to work :) A defrost cycle should kick on a timer or as needed (adaptive) and there should not be excessive frost buildup that it blocks your evap fan. I would have suggested you unplug your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that resets your control board - if not, then you will need service - either replacing motor assembly or a faulty control board.

Stopped cooling

Best to unplug the refrigerator now and let compressor cool. The internal overload will be damaged if power remains on and trying to start. We need to test the compressor and start components before you buy anything, Let me know Sea Breeze

if turning the temp control up and then back down turns it back down, you might start with the thermostat. unless you have a local shop you like i recommend. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/

Refrigerator side stops cooling

Drain stopped up.
Take out the bottom drawer in the freezer, look at the back wall and you should get a partial view of the bottom of the cooling coils. Directly below these coils is the drain area. You may need a light to see the drain hole. If this area is covered with ice then a hair dryer will help clear this so you can see the drain hole.
I have some O2 tubing that I put down the drain to clear any cloggs. Also, I seal the top of the drain hole around the O2 tubing with tape and use the air from my lungs to clear the drain tube. Pour a little water down this drain hole to make sure it’s clear.

LG refrigerator not working

Check and clean the condenser. Unplugging the system allows it to cool off. when you plug it back in it will cool until the heat rebuilds if not rejected through the condenser. Make sure the condenser fan comes on when the compressor runs. A faulty fan motor will cause the same type of problem.
