It heats fine as long as I manually reset it. But it will not reset itself to start automatically.
Hi Shelley, I'm sorry this is late, I have a back problem and often times can not sit at the computer. Removing the front cover causes a "HARD" reset to the furnace. That means, it breaks the line or supply voltage to the furnace. The main reason for requiring a hard reset is a failure to fire up correctly. The flame on the sensor can vary between lighting the pilot and the main burner ignition. The flame can be pulled away from the sensor just long enough to cause this type of failure before the main flame is sensed. The furnace will shut down thinking it is feeding in raw gas with no pilot present to ignite it. All of this happens in just a couple seconds. If there is a small window in the burner cover, you can watch it fire by holding the switch in by hand. If there is not an inspection window with a sealed combustion chamber, it would be best to call a good tech. as it is dangerous with such a short period to ignite while all that gas is flooding the combustion chamber. Without knowing exactly how to do this, it could explode. BE CAREFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Roger, thank you very much for responding so well to my problem. I really appreciatethat you put this effort into my concern, especially as you have pain sitting at the computer.
I didn't know about the explosive issue with the cover removed. You'd think that would be common sense, but apparently it is not! We had the flame sensor replaced, but that did not fix the problem. We tried replacing the batteries in the thermostat, to no avail. And then we replaced the thermostat and have not had any issue for the last couple of weeks, so we consider the issue resolved. Thank you again for helping us, we have learned a lot through this process. Take care!

What do you need to do to reset it? Does it always heat OK after just 1 reset or some times more?
I only need to remove the cover from the furnace, releasing the rocker switch and replace the cover. It only needs one reset and it starts. This is an intermittant problem; sometimes its fine all day after a reset, and sometimes its needs help multiple times. Its also on occation not shut off and the temperature in the house just keeps climbing until I shut off the furnace and reset it.
Add a CommentWe had the flame sensor replaced, however we have had the same problem since. We've now replaced the thermostat on the wall to see if it was sending bad signals.
