Throttle adjustment for john deere chain saw

I have an old john deere chain saw.It was running fine a few days ago and i can not get it to start now.I am thinking it might be a fuel problem.I took the carb apart and cleaned it up.It has 2 adjustment screwsI am thinking they have to be backed off 1 and a half turns. Can someone tell me if that is correct.I did all this but I have not tried it yet, because I want to get some fresh fuel.If anyone has any tips for me I sure would appreciate it.

The H is for high rpm (Main mixture) and the L is for Low rpm (Idle Mixture). First turn in both screws all the way in and then turn them both out 1 and a half turns. Pump the primer bulb if the equipment has one. Start the engine, once it is idling, turn the L (Idle Mixture) screw out (counterclockwise) from the preliminary setting until the engine speed decreases (rich). Note the position of the needle. Now turn the adjusting needle in (clockwise). The engine speed may increase, then it will decrease as the needle is turned in (lean). Note the position of the needle. Set the adjusting needle midway between the rich and lean settings as in the picture below. Don't touch the throttle during this procedure. Once you have found the best idle speed for the engine then you need to adjust the high rpm. This process is the same as with the idle rpm process but you need the to hold the throttle wide open while you are adjusting the H (Main Mixture) needle on the carburetor.

I have less then 1 hour on my cs52 john deere and each time it runs for a short time, shut it off and well not restart untill I pull like crazy. I ran a bit the other day and now I can't start

I have the same model..had to replace the housing due to the bolt breaking loose that holds the bar and cracking the bar oil tank wall. Been apart for a few years. Once back together. It fired first time and ran great...the second day of heavy use I had this same problem. Turned out it was the on/off switch. It was not fully engaging when in the on position and I had to flip it a few times. once started it would idle ok..then just stop.. I replaced the switch and the problems went away. and it I may add. I replaced the original bar and chain with an arbor pro from Baileys. The bar and chain are slightly thinner then the original and man did that make a difference on cutting speed!!

What part number oregon chain do i need for a cs-52 john deere saw. They keep sending me the wrong john deere chain witch is three links short. thanks Vern.

Hello Sam;
I cannot find anything by Deere (probably an efco 152) about your saw. Oregon does list some particulars here:
Oregon Bar & Chain Selector
http://www.oregonchain.com/pro/lookups/selguide.aspx?BusId=OCS&SellReg=USA&LangId=ENG
I input:
John Deere; CS52; *see below; All (0.325"); All (0.050"); All (yours is likely green - low kickback).
*16" - 66 drive links (the part that fits in the bar).
*18" - 72 drive links.

If your saw does not use either 66 or 72 drive links I suspect the bar, drive sprocket, or drive sprocket and bar nose in use are not what the the saw was originally supplied with. Any local chainsaw seller/mechanic given your chain as a pattern can fabricate one in about 5 minutes. Often a local chain is less expensive (no shipping).

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. HTH & Good Luck.
Lou

Chain saw won't start

Check the fuel filter for plugging (which is common when fuel is left in the machine over winter storage). You should run the carburetor dry after emptying the fuel tank for storage.Hope this helps!

I don't know where you can get a service manual. You've described the symptoms of a dirty clogged fuel filter down inside the fuel tank at the end of the fuel pickup.
