Philips cdr600 Hi, i purchased my cdr600 about 2 years ago, from the very start it never read blank disc's without several attempts of reloading it (open and closing the draw) i thought this was because i wasn't using philips blank cd's. Unfortunately it will not read any dics, can you suggest anything please Chris

plug out the set from the current for about a hour then plug in back..if that does not help then your set needs repair..or buy a new one.good luck.

Classic Philips problem in that the Laser has gone.

My unit has started doing the same thing about 6 months ago (the record cd tray keeps opening again after a new disc is inserted.) My unit is about 10 years old so I figured it might be because I've recorded so many CD's and it's not sensing the disc correctly. I'm stubborn, so every time this happens I press the button to reload the disc and keep doing that until it loads correctly and starts reading/initializing. Sometimes it loads after a couple of opening/closing attempts, sometimes it takes a dozen or so attempts. But eventually it loads. It's frustrating to do this but it's worth it because this is such a good unit. However, most importantly the best possible and correct type of discs must be used. The only ones that have worked consistently for me (very rarely is there a bad disc) are Sony CRM80RS. I use these exclusively now. As of April 2011 they're still available online from Amazon and Walmart, and other sites too. Sold in 30 or 50 packages and fairly inexpensive. I've just read some of the other answers on this site and realize the problem could also be connected to a dirty laser, so I'm going to try wiping the 'eye' very gently with a Q-tip. It might help.

There are several reasons why your DVD player would stop reading discs.
1. Bad or dirty lens
2. Bad disc spinner motor
3. Busted capacitors on the mailboard

If you can open up your DVD player. Try to check for these problems.

You have to use blank CD-R Audio or CD-R Music CD's in a home CD recorder. It will not record on data disc media but it will play almost any CD with CD Audio music on it.

You can try the following:

Unplug power cord.
Plug back power cord.
Press start and push repeatedly the eject button while the unit is starting, before the Player start reading the CD.

Try this a couple of times.

if that does not work, then you will need to disassemble the unit, unplugging from power, and removing the screws at the bottom and at the back, to access the drive and remove disk manually.

hi not sure if this helps but some disc ,s ive used on my 500s won,t work either so i changed the type of disc and it seems to do the trick i think some disc,s just aren,t good enough ie cheap ones .

Ok, the reason is quite simple. The Philips DVD8421 does not recognise the DVD-R format.Not all DVD/CD burners read all discs. It does recognise DVD+R though. So all you need to do is use these discs instead. This should solve your problem.

Your cd burner has burned out it's burning laser.You must get a replacement assembly about $150 for the part and also someone to install it for you.
