Any visible signs that excessive frost buildup may be the problem? There is no obvious frost inside the frig.

  • olsonplace May 12, 2009

Noticed gaps in foam insulation around cooling pipes near condenser coils. When motor is off the frost that formed in those gaps melts and drips on wiring and connectors in wiring system.

  • olsonplace May 12, 2009

The part pictured looks like the one recieving the condensation melt drips. Thanks for the help! I will get a friend to replace the thermostat and cover the gaps in insulation. The more I look the more drip spots I am finding.

  • olsonplace May 18, 2009

Thanks for the advice. In looking at diagrams of this model I see that what I observed is condensation dripping on the capacitor. What is the function of the capacitor and how would the frig operate if this part has been damaged?

Also, thanks for your patience in addressing this problem. It is a chronic situation and not an acute one so I am not working the solution non-stop--just as time allows.

You may have a faulty temprature sensor, try a hard reset. Just unplug the power cord for 30 minutes or more, then try again.

The thermostat need to be changed along with the entire insulation of the cooled section of the gas tube. First just change the thermostat and see if better cooling is achieved. Then redo the insulation & check the quantity of the coolant gas by any meter. Also ensure that the doors of the freezer & lower section creates an effective contact.,...............sodeep (If nothing works please post your comments so that we can try better)

Hi, your assessment is correct. there has been a part failure and it is the THERMOSTAT assembly. this device regulated the temperature that is set by the user. it commands the compressors actions a s well. if the compressor checked out ok and, you have verified sufficient coolant, this will confirm thermostat assembly failure and replacing this device will fix your temperature control issue. i will post a link to the actual part that you will need to replace below. you can also order on this linked site as well if you choose.

Hi,

That switch on the compressor is called a Relay and is a common failure problem. Most professional Mechanics will have a universal Standby on his truck until the original part arrives. Doing without the Refrigerator is often needless and very frequently it can be fixed within a day. It is not often best to call a service company the manufacturer recommends but call a Refrigeration Professional that you trust.

The Relay can also be replaced and tried by yourself.

OR

I still think if the doors where left open for any length of time, the 'not cooling' may just be the result of an excessive frost build-up. In such a case the fridge should likely be manually defrosted by turning off or unplugging it for 12-24 hours *while leaving the doors open* (very important during a defrosting).

This means please have the fridge completely defrosted and then plug it in.

Thanks

I strongly recommend getting TAYLOR refrig/freezer

Let the refrigerator stabilize EMPTY 24 HOURS
Loaded with food (not recommended: 72 hours).

ADJUSTING CONTROL SETTINGS
Give the refrigerator time to cool down completely before adding food. It is best to wait 24 hours before you put food into the refrigerator. The mid-settings indicated in the previous section should be correct for normal household refrigerator usage. The controls are set correctly when milk or juice is as cold as you like and when ice cream is firm.

I have a Samsung fridge. model RS265TDWP Can you tell me at what temp. the freezer section should be set?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. The best temp is 0 deg F or -17 C Frozen foods keep best at this temperature. You can operate it up to 10 F to save energy. Anything higher than 10 F and the ice maker will stop working. A good rule of thumb for freezer temps is to watch the softness of ice-cream. If it is too soft it is too warm. The ice cream container should be firm and not squeezable / spongy.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Freezer is working OK (ice cream soft), refrigerator is not working...milk spoiled etc. What to do? Possible self-fixes?

Check under the fridge to assure the coils are clean, if not vacuum and clean with a brush accordingly. While you're down there, make sure the condenser fan motor is turning. Check inside the freezer compartment to make sure the evaperator fan is running.

What's the recipe for coffee ice cream

Ingredients:
  • 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons instant espresso powder
  • 2 tablespoons espresso liqueur
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream

Put the condensed milk in a bowl and stir in the espresso powder and liqueur. In a separate bowl, whisk the cream until it reaches soft peaks. Fold the cream into the condensed milk mixture, then pour this gorgeous caffe latte-colored airy mixture into an airtight container and freeze for 6 hours or overnight. Serve straight from the freezer.

This is the best procedure to make a coffee ice cream.

Freezer not freezing ice cream and milk

Icecream is a tough call. Some brands have to many artaficial ingredients and that doesnt get solid. What temps are you getting in the freezer? Is everything else frozen solid?
