I would normally expect the prompt to be F1 to boot or F2 for setup, but it could be Del. Have you tried to get into the BIOS setup before the error comes up? If you can get into set up, chaeck the date and time. It will probably be off by a few years and the time will be near midnight. The most common cause for this, that I have seen, is that the CMOS battery is failing, or has failed. Reset the date and time and then save and exit. It should start normally. If it does, you need to replace the battery. It is normally a 'coin' type on the motherboard.

Good luck, and please let me know what you find.

If you have reset the CMOS memory you need to go into the BIOS setup screen and reconfigure the BIOS. To do that you need to press a key while the computer is booting. Usually F2 but can be other keys. It should tell you on the bottom of the first screen which key to press to enter BIOS setup.
If you don't know the settings the should be one for optimal defaults - use that one. You will also need to reset the time and date.
Save, Exit and re-boot and everything should then work.
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press delete to enter setup

Hello, when I put my pc running it says CMOS checksum error press F1 to enter or Del to enter setup, but I press Del when I save changes "save and exit" the computer restarts, but this time...

The Checksum error basically shows that boot settings which were previously set has been changed or reset. This usually happens when the battery loses its charge and thus fail to retain the CMOS settings. This can also be caused by a power surge or a damaged motherboard. But most of the times it would be the battery problem.

You can try replacing the CMOS battery and enter the values back into CMOS or reset values to default. Then switch off and boot up again.
Hope this works. Good Luck. ~SmokinJoe~

You probably need to set your boot order in BIOS (setup) to load from CD first. Reboot the computer and press either F1 or F10 repeatedly until the setup (BIOS) menu comes up, then, using your arrow keys, navigate to the boot menu and set the boot order to CD first.

If you can't get into the BIOS through F1 or F10, try other "F' keys until you get in. Also the "Del" key.

Recovering to factory settings is kind of a drastic measure just because of a system hang. You would be better served to find out why the system hung. IN FACT, understand that depending upon what is wrong, the system may hang during the recovery, leaving you with fewer options for repair.

Post back if you want to try to troubleshoot this further. It will take a while, but we should eventually be able to determine what is causing the hang.

It could be just an application that needs to be removed or re-installed. Have you installed any new software recently? What software were you using when the hang occured? What operating system are you using?

It could just be a virus or a bad memory module. Are you able to boot into SAFE MODE" (press the F8 at boot)?

If you can boot into Windows, go to "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Administrative Tools" > "Event Viewer" > "System" and check for any error entries. Also look at the "Applications" log.

I need a bit more info to try to give you an accurate solution

Does the screen change after you press "F1" ?

Do you have access to an external keyboard, if so try plugging that in while the computer is off and then using that to press "F1"
