Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Yes, max osx 10.4.11 and quark 6.5

Below is a standad mac fix-all and a quark fix-all but it could be something else that has happened, after looking on forums there appears to be a problem with this type of problem which quark never bothered fixing in 6.5. I would also instal the quark update from 6.5 to 6.52 from http://www.quark.com/support/downloads/Details.aspx?fid=122 before you do this it may correct it.

Mac Fix-All
Another thing I would do is go to the applications folder and then the utilities folder open up disk utility once opened click on your hard drive and then click on repair disk permissions and let it complete the verification and repair (it could take 20 minutes or more) depending upon the size of your hard drive. A lot of people do not this but to keep your machine running efficiently it should be done on a monthly basis.

Quark Fix-All
It could be that your quark preferences have corrupted, I would go to your users folder then go into the library folder, then the preferences folder and then the quark folder within the quark folder there should be a file called "XPress Preferences.prf" move this to the trash (But do not delete it yet). When you open quark next it will recreate the preference file and hopefully that will sort it out. If this has corrected the problem you can then delete the file in the trash. Please note that you will have to reset your preferences once you open Quark again.

Hope this helps in some way.

You should be able to find a quark folder containing the preference file at username/library/preferences/quark. Move this folder to another location like your desktop and look for any other file that says quark within the preferences folder. After your sure you got everything moved from the preferences that's quark related start up quark, the program should recreate the preference files you moved to another location and start successfully. Now just delete the old preference files you moved to your desktop.

Quark keeps quitting

I take it you mean it quits on startup, if so this is what I would suggest.

What you could do is go to users folder then open up the folder of whoever is the active user (generally this user folder icon is a house icon) then open the library folder then the preferences folder and then quark folder then QuarkXPress 6.0 folder.

In this folder there is a file called "XPress Preferences.prf" move it to the trash (Do not empty the trash if it does not work you can replace the file back into the preference folder) and then start up Quark, it should rebuild the file.

Please note your preferences will be back to default and you will need to reset them.

I would also suggest that you go to www.quark.com then support and update your version of quark to the most up to date version from 6.0 possibly up to 6.1 or 6.52.

Hope this helps.

I had this problem also. Found software from MarkzTools to recover Quark files. You may also want to try having someone with Quark 7 see if they can open the file.

This is for Quark on a Mac. What you could do is go to users then which ever user is the active one then library then preferences then quark then QuarkXPress 6.0 (or may say 6.5) in this folder is a file called "XPress Preferences.prf" move it to the trash (Do not empty the trash if it does not work you can replace the file back into the preference folder) and then start up Quark, it should rebuild the file.

Please note your preferences will be back to default and you will need to reset them.

Unexpected end of file encountered (-39)

You are trying to open a "Shortcut" to a now "unlinked file".
You need to find the original copy, probablt sitting in a folder somewhere.
Do a search for the same file name. You will probably end up with several. Find the actual QXP document, and trash the Shortcuts.

MAC/QuarkXpress files

Hi

If you highlight (one click) one of the Quark, JPEG or Word files, when you are on the desktop and then go to File - Get Info a window should open for the file you selected.

In the Info window about halfway down there should be the text "Opens with", in here you can select the application to open your document (most applications should be found in the Applications folder)

Also if you press the Change All button this will set the files to open up in the selected application the next time you click on one.

Quark 6.5 Error code -39 in a Mac platform

in this case try creating a preferences folder under the HDD>>Applications>>quarkXPress 6.x folder and then check the results.
if it still continues then try to downsave the document to version 5 by doing a file>>save as and changing the version to 5 from there
