My ac fan works but the compressor won,t kick on

The fan on the condenser or air handler? Check the capacitor on the condenser. If you don't have a meter that does uf you can take the amp draws of the comp multiplied by 2650, divided by the voltage between com and herm on the cap. If cap is good be sure compressor is not off on thermal overload, cool with water hose, careful to not soak electrical. If not hot and cap good , try hard start kit. If still no compressor ,ohm compressor, com to start plus com to run should equal start to run on ohms. Hope this helps.

I have aBostitch 2hp air compressor i like to get numbers off the starting capacitor mine got hot and i con;t read it . I call ther sev. and thay woud not give them to me .I whant to buy it localy .w Its

My compressor has a 60uf 330volt run cap with a bolt out the bottom, however, I have seen other values installed. Try using several different values of run caps within this range and select the one that produces the lowest amp draw with good starting torque. Lower voltage cap will also work however will not last long under severe conditions (such as using on generator or long extension cord). The cap does not have to have the mounting bold however do secure to the motor. Good luck

My compressor has a 60uf 330volt capacitor. With a bolt on the bottom, however, I have seen the same model compressor with other cap values. I suggest to try capacitor plus or minus in that range and read amp draw. Select the cap with best combination of start and run amp draw (lowest). Good luck

I have a Carrier Air V air conditioner on which the compressor won't start. You can hear it try repeatedly, but no luck. The fan does work.

CHECK AMP DRAW IF ITS HIGH BAD COMPRESSOR WINDINGS, MAKE SURE YOUR GETTING PROPER VOLTAGE DOES CAP HAVE A RUN AND START SIDE CHECK BOTH. START CAP COULD BE BAD.

Hi, I have a Central Pneumatic air compressor model 94667. The start capacitor burned, so i replaced with a similar size cap. It went fine for 3 minutes and the new capacitor got smoked and started to pop....

We get many chinese compressors with burned capacitors. Most seem to use a 140 uf 250v ac metal run cap.(fairly large metal ). The cap will test bad but not look burned. The motors look pretty crude in the way that they are wound (no start winding) and varnish used on the wiring will not take the heat like other motors. Most likely faulty windings. If you try another cap (or two caps to make value)make sure that the voltage is 250 or higher and run type (metal or light color plastic, not the black start caps) (the higher the voltage the better the quality of materials used ). If the checkvalve is faulty at the tank, the motor will have a higher load at start and run (with out start winding motor works harder to start, if all components are not working correctly, motor /cap will overheat ). Check before next test. Good luck

Fedders 208/230 split system w/ dual cap , compresser runs but fan wont unless you give it a push , compresser won't restart if relay is hot

All kinds of stutt happens when you dont have a condensor fan motor. You need to change the run cap on the motor.

Condensor fan went out on 1999 ruud heat pump.

Did you try pushing in the contactor to see if the unit will even run?

Compressor will not start

It is a good sign that the motor turns freely with and without air. That indicates that you have good bearings and that the intank check valve is in good condition. Next you should check the capacitors and the condition of the windings. Some motors have start and run capacitors and others only have run cap. Remove from the circuit and test with meter having cap. test setting. Most shops will test them for free. The cap should test within 95% of stated ( uf ) value. Replace as needed. Finally check that the flyball switch at rear inside of motor is functioning correctly. At rest, switch is at start winding, then a split second after start, it shifts to run winding. Check contacts are not stuck and that switch is working and lastly that the winding are the color of new penny. Good luck.

Trips breaker starting under load

The problem that you describe is caused by pressure in the airline due to faulty in-tank check valve and/ or the unloader at the pressure switch. When the compressor cycles off the pressure switch releases the air that remains in the air line thru a small valve. There is a 1/4 " tube extending from the check valve to the switch. Listen for the release of air as soon as the compressor stops. There is a small metal tab that pushes on the unloader valve that may need to be adjusted. The motor does not have enough power to start pumping if there is air/backpressure in the air line. If these parts are working correctly then check the value of the start capacitor and use meter to measure. The cap should test within 95 % of stated value. Replace parts as needed. Enjoy
