Have older Kenmore Front Load Washer Model#41741142000. Bought used and was not used for about 8 months. On first load, water leaks out of bolted seam at bottom of tub, mostly during spin cycle. Tried tightening bolts but still leaking. Is there a recommended sealer, or is there a gasket to replace?

"Expert micromaster" evidently did not read my original problem post thoroughly. Of course, I already checked all fill and drain hoses and connections for leaks (none). The leaks are occurring around the bolts which hold the two halves of the agitator drum together.

Thanks, GM Elec. I believe you have found the solution. However, I am not mechanic enough to tear the machine down and reassemble. Do you know of any "band-aid" type fixes? Like a sealant or caulk one might try? Otherwise, I'll have to live with it until it becomes unbearable and then take it to an appliance repair place, or replace the washer completely.

Solution and follow-up by GM Elec was excellent, thanks. Will try suggestions and report back.

Traveler,
There is a seal between the two drum halves. The part is available through the Kenmore web site. I believe it is less than $20. This is the 3rd one of these seals that I have heard of go bad, not sure why or what the problem is. Although the washers are some what older.
The web site is below. Also I will try to attach a diagram of your washer, the seal is item #21.
Good luck, let me know.

There is a compression sealant that is very good, but it would be best used between the two halves. You could try loosening the bolts to separate the drum a bit, then try to force some of the sealer into the joint and re-tighten the bolts.

The sealant is Fernox LS-X sealant. It works with hot or cold water and seals under pressure. You can find that at www.fernox.com .

Is there any possibility the water is leaking at the door seal and running back to the seam. That seems to be a common problem with front load washers. You might want to use some window cleaner and cloth the wipe down the front seal, make sure nothing is stuck behind the seal like one of those "ghost" socks, I've seen that happen before.

    Good luck, let me know.

    Regards,

Hi there,

First check the hot/cold water connections at the faucet and at the back of the washer, make sure there are no leaks there. Also check the connection where the water drains out of the washer, it's the long U shaped hose attached to the bottom back and is inserted on the other end probably in a wall drain, make sure no leaks are there. You could turn the washer over on the front side but you would probably have to disconnect the hot/cold and drain hoses. simple more than likely to fix it a connection is simply loose.
If you purchased the washer new and not 1year older then you still have a warranty on the tub for leaks, check your warranty.

How do you remove the cover of a Kenmore elite top load washer . Have a leak and need to find where it is coming from.

water coming from the bad seal on the shaft. Lift agitator, bolt underneath, loosen pull out basket. From spindle. ..seal underneath. Must take cover off first. Slide a butter knife at edges in front at seam. there's a two ,clips. in there. Usually 2 bolts up towards top on inside edge of front cover. Make sure power cord unplugged.turn basket upside down. You will see seal.

Washer leaks water in the back of the washer but i cannot see any signs of the leak. this is a front load washer . model 970 ca0042 00,

I have a Kenmore front loading washer HE2 Plus.
Started leaking only 6 months old from the back over the spin motor.
I found a bolt had come out of the motor bracket causing the motor to crack a small hole in the plastic outer drum. I've been down for about a month waiting on the part and service. This is under warranty and we cant get any help any sooner from sears, not even a loaner.
Will not purchase Kenmore products again, 2nd front loader from Kenmore, 2nd problems.
