Dvd burner problems with HP Pavillion DV9429us

DVD drive can only read and burn some dvds, while my Dell E1505 does not discriminate, it reads and burns everything!! I was using easy Media Creator 9 on both laptops, then upgraded the HP to EMC 10 hoping it would make a difference. No joy!! Also, there is a driver update on the SAMSUNG site for my DVD drive, but I cannot access it. HP does not offer an update at this time, so what am I to do????

Buy an external USB DVD-RW drive.

Try lowering the burn speed of your drive by using nero suite. I have the same problem as yours, then after using nero drive speed, my dvd drive is ok.

My dvd burner reads dvd's but will not burn them it reads and rites cd's I have no idea what the problem is but i could use some assistance my computer is a dell inspiron b130

The Inspiron B130 is an older (5 to 6 years) budget pc with an optical drive that can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs. So your problem is not really a problem but rather a limitation. Do my compaq presario cq50-209 have a dvd burner?

The easiest way to tell is to open up "My Computer" and look at the drive. If it says "DVD-R," "DVR-RW," or maybe even "DVD+R," you have a DVD burner. If it says DVD-RAM, then it just reads DVD's.

What does "multi layer support" mean. Does it write multi layer discs? or is it able only to read them? Also, what is a lightscribe?

Multi-Layer support means the drive can Read/Write a Dual-Layer discs.

Lightscribe means you can create a label on a disk.

Hp CD\DVD rom not reading CDs, but is reading DVDs?

cd/dvd rom is probably not working ,try using a lense cleaner disc if that doesn't work it's cheap enough to just install a new drive DVD/Rw as they are about £20.00 new.

My dvd burner doesn't burn dvds

You need to check that with blank DVD's you are using compatible with your drive.Because the DVD's may work with your extranal drive but not with your builting drive. If this doen't slove the problem I would recommend using a different burning software other than "sonic record now" and "vista o/s Built-in dvd burner".

Burn DVD

Read on your optical drive. If it burns CD's it reads CD-RW. In order to burn DVD's it needs ro read DVD-RW. If it reads DVD-ROM it will only read DVD's not burn them.

A good external burner is Plextor. You can get one at Walmart, or you can check Ebay and find an internal to replace the one in your machine. They are fairly easy to replace, and you won't have a bulky external to carry around.

Assuming you have a dvd burner, do you have dvd decoder software or dvd burning software installed? Does it read burned dvds? Are you sure it's a dvd burner? If so, make sure the blank dvds you are using are the proper format ie; dvd+/-rw, etc. Good luck
