In my GE Performance refrigerator side-by-side Ice is being made, but no water is dispensing. The GE Smartfilter is atleast 5 yrs old (I never used/never changed) because we always bought water from the store. When I try to dispense water, I see a leak on the floor. Troubleshooting in the manaul says that reservoir is frozen, but my filter might also be a problem. But if filter is the problem ice should not be made either. Any quick and dirty ideas to check before I buy a new filter or call service?

The water that goes to the door actually is routed through the hinge on the freezer door. Take a look and see if you can't find where the tube comes out and goes into the water dispenser. I bet it has come loose and is rerouting the water down the side of the fridge and onto the floor; hence the puddle.

Also, just because you don't drink the water doesn't mean you don't drink the water! If you use ice from the ice dispenser then you ARE drinking the water. The water that feeds the ice trays comes through the filter, so you might consider changing it every 6 months rather you use the water dispenser or not.
