Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a sony handycam DCR-DVD308 Handycam. REcently, FULLY recorded, leaving 0 minutes on 2 different brand discs. i am having trouble with both of them. I get the disc access icon flashing on the handycam screen and a message "movie recording disabled". I am not allowed to finalize on the handycam. When i go to disc info, i can see that the discs are fully recorded (full green bar across screen). However, neither disc will allow to finalize. I can visibly see on the discs that they are written to. Nothing out of the norm occurred during the recording and i have since successfully recorded & finalized another disc, same brand as one that will not finalize, and the only difference i can tell with this one is that i did not FILL the disc, as i finalized only 10 minutes worth of footage on it. Can i salvage these two discs footage in some way? I don't know why they are giving me trouble as in the past i have always been able to FILL a disc and finalize successfully.....HELP!!!!

This error is due to bad disk as confirmed by Sony . Not an issue with the Handy cam.

I'd see if you can try it in several PCs. Perhaps one can read the disk. Someone brought over a miniDVD handycam disk that had the same problem for me to try on my PCs last week. No luck though. I tried it in 3 drives. That's a risk with recording directly to DVD R.

I wonder if there is software out there that can extract the raw data to get past the bad parts?

For details about which discs are correct for various type of uses please refer to the online manual:

If you google for a data recovery software specially for DVD's you might get some trial versions for sure. But as a technician I donot have any specific name that I can recomend . And about purchasing such softwares I would not suggest as they are costly .

Take care of the DVD's you purchase and try avoiding recording to your dvd's directly.

Try to use a cotton swap to 1st clean the recording lens or blow gently on it. Place an empty disc in, format the disc, record a little scene. Turn off camcorder. Place the error disc in the camcorder, turn on the camcorder all the way to play/edit. If this doesn't work turn it to record and try to record. Worked for some of my error disc

DCR-DVD308 Camcorder problem

There sas a tiny screw probably from the manufacturers that was sitting on the DVD mechanism witch prevented the DVD to sit properly. So I removed the loose screw. Now works wonderfully.
I checked everything on the camera and doesn't have any screws missing. Thanks. Grace
