no coronas to be found- this is a digital, has a transfer roller that I have cleaned, the main ch. must be in the drum unit. I cleaned the scanner slitglass and the **** opening above the drum. I also adj. the exposure by holding the auto exp. key until it blinked, then adj. to the darkest set. It is much better, and a skyshot is good and black. It still could be better though-

Check the machine for a **** or dust glass above the drum.
Check and clean coronas, the wires and shells may be dirty reducing charge.
Run a few white copies, to check of the toner / carrier ratio is low.

Hope this is of some help.

I would look into the charge corona, and if it is constantly adding toner, As I mentioned on my last post, it could be a lack of toner, test the machine door open and watch the machine, if it is depleted it will add toner on every copy.

Running white copies and having the quality improve will detect this.

As long as it is dirty inside the nachine, you will continue to have problems with copy quality' The light copies are from dust in your optics.

Basically, the machine needs aGOOD Cleaning, inside and out..Yes, it will cost you a service call, but that should clear up your issues. Be careful, and ask the tech/company what a good cleaning consists. Be srecific with describing your problems, like you did here.

Copies come out very very light. Replaced drum and toner and no difference. Is it shot?

No, you need to clean the optics( beneath the copy glass and lenses of laser unit ).

Hope that helps!

We have a Sharp Model AL-1631 unit that keeps running but doesn?t make copies. Any idea what is wrong and how to fix it? Thanks.

When these Sharp AL series machine just run and run it means they are low or out of toner. This is especially true if you are hearing a light thump thump noise while it is running. Just let it run and after 5 minutes or so it should shut down and then replace toner light should come on. This is the small red light that looks like a stack of 6 dots.
Either replace the toner or have your existing toner refilled.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

I own a Sharp Al-1655CS about 2 yrs old, I have a problem, the balck toner powder is exiting the back of the machine and copies are very light. The copy count shows 12,000 copies made. I have repalced the...

These are very good machines so I would see no reason to replace it. Do you have the operators manual? If so look up the setting for "toner save mode" and make sure it is NOT turned on.
The drum unit is good for at least 18,000 pages so I would not suspect the drum. I even reset the counters on the drum units and can get up to 36,000 pages on them. Do you have the machine hooked to a PC for printing? If so is there any difference between printer density and copy density? If so then the issue is with the scanner density setting. If the copy and prints are both light then it is a print engine problem. If several toner cartridges are doing the same light print then I would suspect that your laser scanner optics are dirty. There is a narrow strip or slot just above the drum unit that the laser beam goes thru to write the image onto the drum. This should be cleaned and then the machine re-tested. If no improvement is see then the machine will have to be dis-assembled and cleaned which would require a compentant service technician.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Hold down the Copy button and you should see a readout for the total copies printed from the copier and the percentage of toner left in the unit.

Sharp AL 1655CS Grayscale Copier prints with black lines

Lines on copies can come from the optict area, charge grid and comb or the fusing roller. Stop the copy halfway through the cycle and see where the line starts to appear. If you see it as much as you do the rest of the print, it is either optical or in the drum charge unit.

Toner error message on copy machine

Is "CH" steady or flashing? If it's steady, the door is not shut properly.
If it's flashing, the machine doesn't detect the presence of the toner cartridge (defective toner cartridge). Try another toner cartridge (an empty cartridge will do).

To get the blue handle to stay locked sometimes takes fiddling with it when the cartridge is in.
