Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone
If you are trying to use another carriers sim on your iphone it will give you that message unless it's unlocked. If it's an AT&T sim just go to the local AT&T store and get another one. If its a corp. store there is no charge

Your phone must be jail broken and unlocked to use non AT&T sim card. Be sure you have correctly installed redsn0w and ultrasn0w unlocker. If you have recently updated your phone that will undo your jailbreak and unlock. You will need to reapply them for the version of your iPhone OS if they are available.

If your phone was purchased unlocked and it was less than $500.00 then it was not unlocked legally therefore you have to unlock it each time you update it. Follow this walkthough and you'll be up and running in no time.

You are holding a locked handset. Find out from where you got it who it is locked to and get a hold of the unlock code from them normally around $50 from the Telco who locked it.

SOURCE: SIM card not supported in itunes
what you need to do is put your iphone in recovery mode then wait until itunes reconizes your iphone. it should say itunes has detected a iphone in recovery mode choose restore and that should take care of the problem, (if you backed up your iphone b4 you updated it) and if that doesnt work your still in luck because the dev team put out a new jail for 2.2.1 n lower try jailbreaking it using quickpwn hope this helps
