Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook
It's usually the lcd cable. It has a short so when you move the screen back and forth you're "fixing" it.
Best thing to do is just look up the part number on the lcd wire and buy a replacement one on ebay. If that doesn't fix the problem it's the lcd, but based on what you've described all signs point to lcd cable.
