Picture at times when I start the TV or it's been on for a while I get verticle lines with multiple of the same pics racing across the top of the screen and it makes the picture run side-ways. But only at the top 1/3. Please help me on this.

Caps in the vertical circuit are causing this and taking it to a reputable shop won't be all that expensive... The tech will ESR (equivilent series resistance) test the caps and replace those with a high ESR or open which should solve the problem..

I turn on my tv when i came from school and my tv has a black thick line across the top of the screen, how do I fix it?

The virticle hold is beginning to fail on your TV. This is caused by a capacitor which over time has gotten hot and is loosing its value in capacitance. It is part of a circuit which drives the verticle hold circuit, so it regulates how tall the picture is. It will eventually shrink into a single line in the center of your screen if it is not replaced.

The bad news is that if you do not feel secure in soldering a component on your TV's board, you will need to pay to have it done.. It might be time to get a new TV in other words. The point is that if that cap is failing, the others are not far behind, because the inside of the old TVs gets kind of hot and drys out the capacitors as they age that way...

Verticle lines across my screen with no picture.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Samsung Plasma HP4252 type SR42P5 verticle blue lines across entire screen

First off there isn't a timing board in a plasma TV. I would guess you have a bad y-sus board.

Verticle lines across top of screen

This is a problem with the vertical circuit and because it "repairs" itself, sounds like either a poor solder connection or a failing capacitor. This is a fairly common problem that is easily resolved. If you have repair experience, you can fix this yourself. Please verify the model number and whether or not you plan on attempting the repair and I'll supply additional details.

Thanks,
Dan

I have picture at the top and verticle lines at

Your panel needs replaced. Half a picture, top to bottom, provides a quick diagnostic. You panel has a Timing Control (T-Con) board failure. Watch out for part cost, it may be cheaper to replace the TV rather than repair it. I hope this helps.
