If you haven't already done this, try going to the man Manufacture's web page, get into the drivers & downloads area to download the driver that should be with or installed your Laptop when first purchased. Sometimes the manufacture will not only have the driver download of the original that suppose to be there, but also have an updated one to download. Make sure you have the proper name, model number, serial number and or sid number on hand so you can get the right driver. Check you device manager also to see what version may have been there or may still be there. Sometime the device manager will have a link for an updated version (try using the link first). You may need to download an audio codec to fix the problem too. That too is a driver download that should be listed on the manufacture's web site. If you can't locate the driver's you need on the manufacture's web site you can google "free codec""free audio driver download for ? (name of manufacture) laptop." I hope this will help you, I'm guessing here, without more knowledge of your problem. This problem you seem to have sounds like the one that others have experienced after receiving an update from some place (like Microsoft). good luck

There are 4 ways you can download and install audio drivers :
1.From Device Manager
(1).Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. (2).In the Device Manager dialog box, expand Sound, video, and game controllers. (3). Right-click the device, and click Scan for hardware changes. You should see a message that a hardware device is being installed. Additionally, the uninstalled audio device is now present in Device Manager. (4).Close the Device Manager dialog box, and then determine whether you can hear sound.
2.From the motherboard or installation CD - If your computer came with a motherboard CD, the audio drivers should be on the disk.
3. From manufacturer's website - If you don’t have the CD go to your computer manufactures web page to search for updated sound driver software. Read the instructions on the download pages carefully before installing.
4. Microsoft's Windows Update feature : If there are no updated sound drivers available, use Microsoft's Windows Update feature. Connect to the Internet and try the following items until Windows Update opens:
(1).Click Start, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed). (2).Click Start, click Settings, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
