Parental controls on our VCR

We have an Emerson VCR and DVD player .  The Model seems to be HQ.  the problem is someone but on the paerental controls and now we can't watch even a PG13 movie.  We have no idea who put these on and therefore don't know the code to over ride this restriction.  Also shouldn't we be able to record on the on the VCR programs on television.
