Question about GE GSS22JEPCC / GSS22JEPWW / GSS22JEPBB Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Not cooling My fridge was not running at all yesterday. I pulled it out from the wall and cleaned all the lint out of the back panel , which was blocking the air flow. I now hear the motor running, in the freezer section. What other troubleshooting can I do myself, before calling service to come out and charge me an arm and a leg?

Ok first of all don't panic!!! Move the fridge out from the wall again and unplug it. get down low with a good torch and inspect the undercarriage of the fridge, there you will see a black rounded shape object which is the compressor, be careful not to touch it because it will be hot , secondly you should be able to see a coil and a small fan which blows air through the coil to cool down the refrigerant, once you can see these objects inspect the fan and see if it spins , if it does then turn the fridge back on and check to see if it is running when the compressor is running, if it is not then the fan is seized and will require replacement, if you think you are competent to carry out the works be sure to take note of what wire goes where, and make sure it is unplugged completely from power supply :)  Be safe!!!

I have maytag mff2557hes fridge that seems to run more often than not. Freezer and fridge cool fine but it seems to run all the time. Is this normal?

Pull the unit out from the wall and check the coils at the compressor for lint and dirt buildup. The coils and fan should be free of any debris to operate correctly.

Hot spots on outside of Amana fridge. sxd22s2w model

if it feels like it's running hot check the coil to see if it needs to be cleaned, remove the bottom kick plate and look at the coil, the coil should be cleaned once every 6 to 12 months, also pull the fridge out, remove the back bottom panel, make sure the condenser fan is blowing and vac out any lint near the fan and compressor, also check the cover that you removed and clean that too.you might want to unplug the fridge while you clean back there so you don't hit the fan blade, wait 5 minutes before you plug it back in so the compressor can reset itself.there are gas lines that run through the frame of the machine,if the coil is jammed with dust and lint the machine runs hotter, this is how it cools off through the condenser coil and the fan blows the air around to help cool it down,if it runs hot then the freon will run hot and you could feel it on the frame and in the strip where the doors close together.you can buy a brush that you can push into the holes of the coil to pull the dust out or if you have a shop vac you can vac out as much as you can and then put it on blow and blow the dust out of the coil, just hit it with short bursts or the dust will blow everywhere.

My fridge never goes off it runs 24/7. Is this normal?

is everything staying cold and machine is running normal other than running all the time?if so remove the bottom kick plate and clean the condenser coil off,if this is loaded with lint it will cause the machine to run longer because the lint is holding the heat in,this is how the machine cools down along with the condenser fan.you can pull out the machine and remove the bottom panel in the rear also and clean that out, make sure the fan is running then unplug it and clean it,i use a shop vac and a brush to do this, vac as much as you can then stick the brush through the coil holes and pull out as much lint as you can, then i stick the vac on blow and blow through the coil with short blasts so the dust and lint doesn't fly everywhere.you should do this once every 6 to 12 months.this will make a big differance on how the machine runs.

Hi

The most common problem is the condenser under the refrigerator is clogged with lint. Pull the unit away from the wall for clearance and have someone use a vacuum on the dust. Unplug the unit while working on it and remove what can slide around be careful not to damage the works underneath, as dirt is the whole problem .Clean it and reset to factory settings and leave it for 24 hours.

Please check the bellow link to troubleshoot your problem and to have a detailed knowledge as to why your refrigerator is not cooling enough:-

Exterior panel between freezer and refridgerator that magnetic strip sticks to is very hot.

Have seen it many times before especially on Whirlpool fridges before. It is not detrimental to the running of the fridge but has the tendency to warp the door fridge seals. In my opinion, when the fridge was piped up, instead of running the high side (hot pipe from the compressor), through the radiator first and then to the fridge body, they have done it in the opposite way. As a result, All the heat from the compressor is going firstly into the fridge frame to eventually exiting and then going to the radiator.(Thats why it is so hot between the doors). To rectify this, you need a technician to swap the pipes over at the back as already discussed, then regass..

Center support is hot

Pull the fridge out from the wall , and remove the rear panel . Check to see if the fan which cools the compressor is running . If not , it will have to be replaced . You may can get it started , by turning the blade by hand , but , it will still have to be replaced as it will stop again . If it is turning , your coils need to be cleaned of dust , lint , pet hair , etc . Also , the fridge has to have a back panel , so it will pull air over the coils and compressor , to keep them cool .

Refridgerator top freezer exterior wall hot

Hi.........
Folow these steps. It's worth a try.
1.Pull the fridge out from the wall and unplug it.
2. Clean the dust and lint off the compresser and everything else.
3. Also clean under the fridge.
4. The frame around the freezer door should cool down.

If the cooling fan was stuck , that may also be a cause for your refrigerator wall becoming hot.Check that too.
Hope My info is useful....Bye
