Standard CRT Toshiba TV - 4inch tall picture in middle of screen...
I was just given a TV by my father that worked fine until one day it was turned on and it had a picture about 4 inches tall the full width of the screen. I'm not exactly sure what to call the problem simply.
I'm assuming the issue is more than likely in the vertical deflection circuit but don't have much experience with TV's. I'm well aware of CRT safety, and comfortable with electronics, but am looking for some guidance... I'd like to learn my way around TV's but need a place to start. If I fix it cool... if not I'd like to learn something.
The TV is a Toshiba CF3066A, powers on fine, audio is fine, tuner fine, picture not so wonderful. The picture seems to start right in the center of the screen (vertically) and scans up maybe 4 inches.
Any help would be appreciated. I could post pictures of the screen if that would help...

Hi,
Not familiar with your actual model.
But a comon problem with older Tosh sets is the 2.2uf electrolytic caps from memory they are usually red there is 1 next to frame Ic & the second is near Psu.
Allso check frame o/p IC for dry solder joints this is easy to test for.
Tap the tv while it is on if the the frame suddenly pop to full size picture you know its dry joints so resolder frame IC.

You had parts in the vertical deflection circuit failing, most common are the vertical output IC and possibly several capacitors also in the same circuit.
just an idea the t.v. is 10 years old ok. Now look at the back can you see inside if so chances are there is a build up of dust which makes a great t.v. wrecker. So vacuum the dust out and see if that helps.
does any one can send me the schematic of TOSHIBA 32A40? I have a vertical problem and I need to locate the vertical IC or trancistor.
I only see a horizontal line on my Tv.
You have CC (closed captioning) turned on and it is set to text mode.....Go to the menu on the remote use the right arrow and hilight "C.CAPT",use the down arrow to highlight "C.CAPT",use the right arrow and highlight "off" then exit button on remote.
i have the same problem, but the model is CX29771 TOSHIBA what i have to do to fix it ?
Thank you
Gerard
