Question about Acer Aspire 3050-1733 Notebook

1 Answer

Acer Aspire 3050-1905 hangs up when booted normaly and slows down to a crawl, but when booted in safe mode, it performs fine. How do I see what device or resource is making it hang up? I'm running windows xp pro service pack 3. I thought it was a harddrive problem, replaced that, but the hidden partition is gone. Very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you're looking for is the msconfig utility.
Here's the ms article on its use.
You may also find very useful in the diagnosis a pair of tools developed by Mark Russinovitch, called process explorer and autoruns, available here.
If you've maintained your system by cleaning out temp files, defragging the hard drive, and cutting out unused programs that you once installed but no longer use, many of these performance issues can be caused by out of date drivers for your hardware.
Here are some useful links that will help you to tweak your setup, and improve the performance of xp. If you have enough RAM to keep things moving well, these steps should be enough to get you close to those original speeds you experienced when the system was new.
Click here and here and here and here
Also, a site with excellent support for windows systems and a great resource for learning: here and here
Finally, its possible you have some malware that was inadvertently installed on your system, and is not affecting it when run in safe mode. I recommend you follow these protocols to safeguard and scan your computer with MBAM to check for the presence of malware that may be interfering with the proper function of your windows installation.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Booting problem

You may have to boot from a CD and make a repair.
Once logged in the CD, choose repair option (Recovery Console), and type these three commands:
1) fixmbr (wait til it finishes)
2) fixboot (wait...)
3) CHKDSK (this will take longer than the previous two.
Your laptop may now boot normally. I think your laptop doesn't have an internal CD-ROM so you may use an external USB CD.

Acer aspire one not booting

your laptop has been turned off without shutting down. all your laptops registries are probably messed up. the easiest way to do is to reformat your computer or restore it to factory settings. unless you have some important files that you cant afford to lose.
