fuse is linked to a switch that is activated/deactivated when door is opened or closed

  • rudi45acp May 11, 2009

Hey guys, I ended up replacing the switch assembly, consisting of fuse, switch and relay.

I was able to get water into tub, fuse no longer blows, but now washer does not start washing. H E L P

    Maytag washer model #LAT2205AAE

Got this bad boy up and running, the switch assembly unit comes in this plastic slotted plate, and all I needed was to align it properly so as to engage relay, and presto.

    Appreciate you guys's help.

Hmmmm... Could be just a loose connection, or not. Sounds like another realy is not working. Did you by chance knock any connectors loose while you were working on the machine; or maybe didn't reconnect something you took loose?

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs May 11, 2010

Or, another possibility is there is a short to ground in the lid switch wire going to the relay. This could be caused by a damaged/loose wire running from the switch to the relay.

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs May 11, 2010

The lid switch opens the circuit to the motor when the lid is up preventing the motor from running, and therby preventing the tub from spinning when the lid is up.

The lid switch probably operates a motor relay. If its fuse is blowing when lid is up, this is probably a normally closed switch -- when lid is raised the switch closes and powers the motor relay. It sounds like the motor relay has a short in its solenoid coil.

My guess is if you replace that relay the fuse will stop blowing.

Ther are ways to check this theory, but they're kinda complicaetd. Do you have a voltmeter and experience with repairing appliances?

A washer pulls more than 4 amps when running normally. Where is this 4 amp fuse?

Front load washer doesn't spin

My Maytag® Neptune® washer filled with water, but it won't spin or drain-what now?

Start by making sure the machine is plugged into a live (working) electrical outlet. Then check the appropriate circuit breaker and reset it if necessary (or check the fuse if you have a fuse box).

Next, inspect the drain hoses and remove any kinks. Take a look at the drain, too - if it's clogged, call your usual drain service person.

Then close the washer door and firmly press the START/STOP button. In a few moments, after the door locks, the washer should begin to spin. (For your safety, the washer will not tumble or spin unless the door is closed and locked.)

If this doesn't work, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-688-9900 for toll-free assistance and service scheduling if necessary.

Maytag neptune won;t rinse

Check latch mechanism for alignment. Often operation of machine loosens latch mechanism causing internal switch for "door open (or ajar)" preventing rinse or spin cycle. Opening and closing door presses latch mechanism closing internal switch allowing for continue processing to rinse or spin cycles.

Maytag stackable w/d

Yes, it is inside the front washer lower front panel. Turn off poawer to unit and change w/ 1Amp 250V (regular of slow-blow). Then try only opening washer lid door with full dial pushed in (that would be the 'off' position. Only open/close lid w/ dial in off position. If washer works normally, may have a temp solution. Mine started this way, but ultimately the double relayed door lid switch was going bad and I had to replace it. Instructions/pictures below. Good Luck

Leep, open the hatch that the timer sits under. You will see the timer and actuator that the coin tray pushes to start the wash cycle. You can rotate this cam clockwise until it gets to it's home position, ususally right around the 12:00 position. Good luck
