I am not sure I understand the question. If the clutch is not working but you hear a clicking sound, it could be the clutch has failed. If the clutch has worn beyond the allowable tolerances, you may hear it click, but it may not be able to hold.

Husqvarna Proflex 21 just stopped engaging the blades after bump over brick. Was working fine, on starting the next cut the engine goes well, lever works but no mower blades turn when lever lowered. T


Sounds like you have broken a shear pin in the drive pulley.
Shear pins are made to break if you hit something. Other wise it would cost a lot of money to repair the damage.

This procedure should be performed with the deck removed. Removal of the PTO clutch and engine pulley should be step one. The crank bolt is 5/8ths. Be sure to unplug the clutch before you remove the bolt. Plug is at hole in chasis on right side rear of engine compartment. Lock brake. Drop the clutch and engine pulley, remove belt from engine pulley then from transaxle pulley. Remove belt from idler pulleys. Istallation is reverse of removal. Be sure the PTO clutch is seated in its retainer ( a bracket that comes down from the chassis and fits into a notch on the PTO clutch. This keeps the clutch from spinning around when engaged. It will rip the wires out if not secured properly). If you bent any belt guides to get the belt off without removing the engine pulley be sure to bend them back.

See pages 18, 19 and 21 of this manual. This model has 2 blades. I don't know your model number so could not download EXACT model manual. These diagrams and pics are very clear. Hope it helps.

How do you remove tension from power steering belt


Hi Jeremy, Over here in Australia the Montero is badged as a 'Pajero'. I have a 2003 model but I presume the serpentine belt or accesory drive belt would be similar in both models and drives the power steering.

The belt most likely has an automatic tensioner as mine does. The tensioner looks like two small pulleys about 21/2" in diameter. The top one should have a square hole cutout for inserting a square peg handle to rotate the tensioner clockwise to release tension on belt.

If you can't find it - start your engine and with the hood popped rev the engine a few times. You should see the belt flexing and the tensioner will be the unit which flexes up and down to maintain the tension - all other pulleys should be rotating in a fixed position only.

Just to the right of the afore mentioned square hole is a small 1/4" hole which lines up with another hole when you rotate the tensioner clockwise to release the tension. Line up the holes and put an allen key or small screw driver through the holes to keep the tension released.

Naturally, I didn't have a square pegged hadle to lever the tensioner so I used a small gemmy or crow bar (whatever you call them in the USA) and levered between the crank pulley and the tensioner to rotate the tensioner clockwise. Be gentle and remember to remove the allen key/screw driver when you have finished.

try unplugging the pto, start the mower, then engage the pto switch. If the fuse still blows trouble is somewhere in the mowers wiring if not the ploblem lies in the pto. hope this helps
