Question about Cartier 21 Chronoscaph W10125U2 Wrist Watch

Open Question

Cartier Autoscaph is not automatic

My Cartier Autoscaph is not automatic!!! When worn on left arm is does not keep its reserve, when taken off at night it will stop. If the watch is fully wound manually and then left to automatic winding, it will keep going for four days (taken off each night) on the fifth moning it will have stopped!! The watch has been back to Cartier Belgium twice and Paris twice.. each time they say after checking that the reserve is 48 hours... I believe that the movement is at fault, that for some reason the automatic winding does not work. Recently the watch went back to Cartier again, where they replaced the movement with what they call a second generation movement (not a secondhand movement) at least I hope not! Although.... After a two week trial, the watch still stops after four days, HOWEVER if I wear it on my RIGHT arm it keeps going!!!!! In Belgium gear change is a right arm job, but even so are Cartier automatic only conceived for gear change arms??? Unfortunately the strap is most uncomfortable on this arm and of course my reflex is to look at the watchless left arm.
Anyone else having a similar problem????

SOURCE: automatic watch not working

I would suggest you do the following........

Pull the bezel out to the first notch then wind the it back and forth for a couple of minutes then that should be it.

How do i know this. I have had a Roadster for a 6 years and just found this out yesterday.

Enjoy the watch.

SOURCE: My cartier tank francaise watch stopped working

If your watch is automatic, then it is self winding and should start if you gently shake it from side to side a few minutes.

Automatic watches do thrive on being worn every day and if left unused will stop after a few days.

If it is a quartz watch, then take it back to the vendor and ask them to fix it.

My automatic omega watch stops after 20-24 hours eventhough i am promised it should last for 48hours if worn continuously for 48 hours.

Almost all automatic wristwatches made today have an 18-24 hour "power reserve" when fully wound. A 24 hour reserve is actually very, very good. I can't think of a modern self-winding wristwatch that has a 48-hour power reserve because that would require a super-long or much larger mainspring than would fit in a modern watch movement / case. There may be some hand-crafted or super-premium watches that can do this, but only a very select few.
Manual wind railroad pocket watches, which were some of the finest and most accurate mechanical watch movements ever made, generally had a 40-hour power reserve. That extra capacity was created by using a large mainspring to store the extra energy. These mainsprings could be used because of the much larger size of these watches, compared to modern wristwatches.
If you are concerned about keeping your watch ticking, even when you're not wearing it, you might want to look at a "watch winder"--basically, a small watch case that rotates the watch for you, keeping the automatic winding rotor moving and the watch ticking. In addition, sitting at a computer all day will wind your watch much less than walking and otherwise moving around. Even though you're wearing your watch, if you're not moving, you're not winding it.

My cartie santos galbee stops every so often. It has just had a battery replaced after being left unused for a year or two - any thought

According to their web site, this model has an automatic mechanical movement and therefore has no battery!

Is the number you quoted correct?

If you go to their web site Cartier.com? or Cartier.co.uk and look up your model (it is the last one in the group - go to the furthest right) and them click on details for that model, you will see a description of the watch.

If it is this model, (it will have "automatic" on the face), then it will only run for 2-3 days before stopping. To start it shake it gently from side to side for a few minutes.

Your replacement battery is therefore very puzzling!

I have a gold cartier, i think its the ameriacana? i never take it off. it stopped suddenly last night?

If it is the model you mention, then it could be automatic or quartz (battery) operated.

They usually say somewhere front or back if it is automatic, otherwise it is likely to be a quartz.

If you have had it for some years, then a dead battery is a likely suspect.

You should take it to a Cartier dealer and discuss a replacement battery.

If the watch is not worn for a day, is it normal for it to stop or slow down? Vintage SS mens datejust, oyster perpetual.

mcdevito75 here, Yes it is normal, especially if your Rolex is an automatic watch. The motion of your Wrist / Hand keeps your watch wound thru the Counter balance on the movement, as the counter balance turns it winds the mainspring little by little, thus keeping your watch wound. Once you take off your watch, if long enough the mainspring simply un-winds and slows and will eventually stop your watch completely. You can keep your Rolex wound even when you take it off by means of a watch winder, a small machine that will keep your watch in motion, or by hand, by rocking the watch back and firth in your hand for about 30 seconds, say before you gpo to bed at night, this way there is always some wind to your watch.

Omega automatic watch (very old) stops often, needs to be shook, then operates for a day or less. It stops if taken off at night

Have you had it cleaned?

It could be that it needs some worn part replaced; in which case it would have to go back to the maker.
